A Haunted Poem

I am haunted.

Do not panic, for this fear is only planted.

These are solely words

From a mind on paper, so absurd.

If you're reading all alone,

You should have known.

Has the hair on your arms rose?

By now, you should know how this goes.

You should not read this by yourself,

But then, why did you pick me out of the shelf?

Did you hear that sound?

Quick, look around!

I'm telling you, this is real,

But hear me out and try not to squeal.

Do not read this now;

Not as a dare,

You would not want a scare.

Not as a joke,

Did you hear that? The vase just broke.

What could that be?

It's not me.

If only you knew

What was watching over you.

As you read this, word-by-word,

Your fear is heard.

Be careful; are you daunted?

They say I am haunted.

Maybe even more.

Do you regret taking me out of the bookstore?

No need to be alarmed,

You might not be harmed.

But if you read too fast,

Beware, this fear may not last.

Breath in, breath out,

And please don't shout,

But behind you...

Did you look? Whew!

Whatever you do,

DO NOT LOOK!
