Abbie's pov

I don't like making new friends, I like my friends. But I have to go to this stupid school, so Amy doesn't get in trouble. I have been here for two days already and I have managed to stay in the background of everything. A few kids have tried to talk to me but I just act shy so they will leave me alone. I like being alone.

"Why are you sitting by yourself?" A girl came up to me and sat down across from me at the lunch table.

I shrugged my shoulders then took a bite of my apple.

"Where are you from?"

"My house." I smiled at her.

"Where is that at?"

"I am not allowed to tell people where I live."

"That's what my momma said too."

"Then why did you ask me?"

"I don't know." She laughed.

"I have to pee." I got up and went to the bathroom.

When I got into the stall I locked the door then counted to 50, that should be enough time for her to leave. When I walked back out to the table she was gone. Yay! I sat back down and finished my sandwich.

"Okay, if you are all done eating, it is time to go out and play!" The teacher said.

I stayed in my seat as everyone else ran out of the room.

"Abagail, why are you not outside?" Another teacher asked sitting down next to me.

"I don't wanna." I made my voice soft.

"Wanna is not a word, say want to."

"I don't want to."

"You don't want to do want?"

"I don't want to go outside and play." I looked up at her.

"Why?"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"You need to go outside."

"Why?"

She looked at me blankly trying to think of what to say.

"So, you can make friends."

"That's the best you can come up with? I know I am young, but I am sure you could have come up with a better lie on why you want me out of your hair." I took a sip of my chocolate milk then smiled at her.

"Ah, so you are one of those children." Her tone changed.

"I don't know what those are, but I promise I will be good. I just like being alone, I miss my friends back home. And I miss my mommy and daddy." I let a few tears fall from my eyes.

Her face softens, as she saw me crying.

"Awe honey, you don't have to cry. You can stay here as long as you promise to be good." She wiped my tears.

"I promise." I smiled at her.

"Okay." She smiled at me then got up and left me alone.

"How did you do that?" A boy sat next to me.

"Do what?"

"Mrs. Jane, she is the meanest teacher here. And she let you stay in here."

"I am a little girl, I just gotta cry and I get my way." I took another drink of my chocolate milk.

"Lucky!"

"I know. So why are you in here?"

"The fifth graders are picking on me, so the teachers are having me stay in here."
