I had used that lead up time to start on the design for the island project, my draft drawings being sent to the Washington brothers for their initial feedback, I hadn't shared the designs with my brothers or Henry or Alex, because I wanted an unbiased opinion. Tristan had emailed to say they had received the designs and would be in touch shortly, but then it was time to focus on the club.
It had been eight weeks since I saw Henry and Alex, we had spoken over the phone, planning for the work, but I hadn't seen them, both keeping their promise to be strictly professional.
Today was the first day of the build, I had rolls of design sketches and information under my arm as I struggled down to the office, luckily the door was slightly ajar so I gave it a push with my foot before trying to rebalance my load. "Let me help you" I heard and jumped, dropping several rolls as I saw Alex appear in front of me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked looking at him in surprise.
"Working" he replies with a grin at me.
"Oh" I start to back away "I'm sorry Alex, I thought, well it doesn't matter, I will set up in one of the other rooms""Wait, please, I know I said to use this room and I want you too, you will not disturb me any more here than anywhere else" he tells me and I arch a brow.
"I can..." I start to say but he grins again before sayin
"Are you scared of me" his voice caresses my mind as he takes a step closer. "Do you want to run away and hide" he continues and I grit my teeth before replying."I know what you are doing Alex and it won't work" I tell him and he grins again, a sight I am beginning to like more and more.
"I'm not doing anything Geneva, just making sure you have an office to use while you do the work, unless" he pauses and looks into my eyes "Unless you don't think you can keep it professional if we are in the same space" he finishes smoothly before stepping back.I growl under my breath, damn the man, if I run he wins, if I stay, I have a horrible feeling again he might just win. "Fine" I mutter, looking round the room "If you insist then its your own fault if my work disturbs you"
He sweeps his hand sideways and I notice there is another desk to the side of his, that wasn't there last time I was here. "Your desk, feel free to use whatever you need" he tells me, leaning down to pick up the rolls I had dropped.
I edge past him and drop the rest on the desktop, before pulling my laptop out of its bag and setting it up. Alex had placed the rolls on the desk and returned to his own desk, picking up a piece of paper and handing it to me.
"The wifi information and a directory of the phones in the club, feel free to use my phone, anytime you need it" he says watching me and I fix a smile on my face, determined not to let him see how much his presence is affecting me.
"Thank you" I say, looking up at him. "Alex... Are you going to be here everyday?" I ask carefully and he laughs.
"No. my dear, I am here today to make sure you have everything you need, then I am afraid I need to return to London, but Henry and I will pop in when we get the chance to, during the work" he replies and I feel a little relief, I just had to keep it professional till he was gone.
I had set up the desk when the first of many expected calls started from my team, all of them more than competent by they all liked to double check any issues with me. Every now and then I could feel Alex's eyes watching me but I was kept busy so had little time to dwell on him.
Today should have been the easy day as the work was mainly stripping out all of the existing furniture and fixtures, but as ever the issues kept coming.
He surprised me at lunch when he ushered me into the conference room and pulled out a selection of sandwiches and pastries for us, commenting that regular meals were important and I should always make sure to eat. I felt flattered by the attention and nervous but the half hour reprieve away from the desk, had made me feel better.
