What if you were working for the enemy. Your goal was to distract Phil, but instead he distracted you.

5 months ago, you had been assigned to working with one of the top SHIELD agents, Phillip Coulson. By working with, you meant working against. Your goal was to distract him so your boss could get ahold of information they needed, information that could destroy SHIELD and all they stood for. When you first took this assignment, you were all for it. SHIELD had taken away something that meant the world to you, you wanted them to suffer. What you hadn't planned on, was falling for the enemy.

"Y/N? Are you okay?"

Coming back down to reality, you cleared your throat and responded, "Yes, just thinking."

"About what?"

Staring into the eyes across from you, you felt your heart melting. Phil Coulson wasn't your enemy; he was the love of your life. How were you going to tell him? This would break his heart. "Phil, I-" before you could finish, the earpiece you were wearing forced conversation into your ear. "Keep it together, agent. We've almost got him." You couldn't do it anymore... this wasn't about revenge. Reaching up, you took the earpiece out, you had to tell him the truth. "I'm not who you think I am."

Before he could answer, the windows shattered, disrupting the quite atmosphere of the restaurant you were at. You knew what was about to happen. You couldn't let it end like this. Thinking fast, or perhaps not even thinking at all, you flipped the table and used yourself as a shield to protect Phil. Shots rang out and you felt something slam into you, warmth pooling around the area. Grabbing you, Phil held you close as he fought back. Your vision started to blur but you could just make out several other SHIELD agents joining in. "Hold on y/n. Help in on the way." Phil's voice faded as you let the darkest overtake you.

Note: It's up to you- do you want to see an ending where Phil knows of the readers mission, or should he be disappointed when you tell him? Or, would you like to see a version with both endings?
