《Alia》

After tossing and turning all night in the freezing room with only a single blanket, I finally get up in the morning and throw my head in my hands. Very little light shines into the room thankfully, but my retinas still burn. Groaning, I drag myself from bed and trudge to the small mirror on the wall, rubbing my eyes. At least nothing's changed from my world to this one;

I look horrendous in the mornings either way.

Clicking my tongue in my dry mouth, I stretch and hold it for a few seconds, feeling every muscle pull and burn. Then, I crack my neck soundly, taking in a deep, rejuvenating breath. What to do today... Well, since I haven't travelled back to my realm within the last 24 hours, I might as well start acclimating. The only way to start doing that is...

A knock startles me from my thoughts, and the door creaks open. The light from the hall creeps in and burns my eyes more, but a head blocks the brunt of it. My eyes widen.

"Ivan!"

I open the door more to let him in, which he strides in like he lives here. He has had a complete makeover, his wardrobe fitting this era, as well as his hair combed to a suitable style. My jaw drops. He looks like a...a...

Fop.

"How did you know I was in this one?"

Ivan spares a sparkling white grin. "I could hear your snoring from the end of the hall."

My jaw drops again, but he laughs in response.

"Relax! I'm joking, Lia."

I roll my eyes and avert my attention back to his fitting style. Where could he have even gotten these clothes from? He couldn't buy it...not without francs. That lead me to wonder... "Who gave you those?"

He looks down at his outfit. "Oh, this? Meg knew a guy around my size and asked him for a few outfits. And who knew she could do hair? She tried slicking it back, but I hated it. So she trimmed it a little and brushed it this way. What do you think?" He models his new do for me. "Like what you see?"

I blink and raise my eyebrows. "Meg did all that for you?" He nods, to which I raise my brows again. Hey, at least now he won't be hanging all over me. "Get you a girl who can do both," I quote the meme, snickering. Ivan just grins proudly, probably knowing very well her entire backstory and hobbies.

"She's actually on her way here, by the way," he adds, checking outside the door. He smiles at something before popping back inside with me. "Right on time."

I furrow my brows and peek out, but Meg rushes in with a bundle of shit that makes me stumble back. She flicks on the light and throws her pile of stuff on the bed, grinning like a child on Christmas. "Alia! Look what I brought you."

And I do look. It's a large pile of dresses and undergarments that go with these outfits. I feel a frown coming on. As much as I love the style of this era, I don't know if I'd particularly like wearing corsets and trousers under dresses everyday, feeling weighed down by the tons of layers. "Where did you get these from?"

"Oh," she smiles and shrugs, "some are from my wardrobe. The others came from this pretty girl named Brigette. She's going to be leaving the Populaire soon for another ballet opportunity, so she gave me some of these. They look like just your size!"

Sorting through them, I find which dress I like the best and doesn't require much extraneous garments. It's a more simple champagne colored dress with a silk corset and a floral skirt, sporting only a small train and bustle on the back. Thank the heavens, I let out a sigh of relief and throw it over my arm. "Thank you, Meg."
