Emily's pov
Somehow the monsters seperated us into groups of two. I somehow ended up with Jason. He seemed a tad uncomfortable, but didn't let it get to him as a few hellhounds close in.
I slash on straight across the chest and he explodes like a sand castle in a wind storm. A group of empousi join the two remaining hellhounds.
"Why oppose us? End could use you again. He would welcome you back with open arms as a high ranking officer." One of the empousi says.
"Hmm, should I? Naw, I like Camp Half-Blood." I say as I decapitate one of her sisters who had gotten too close.
"But Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed in a matter of days! Join us now and you will not be harmed. He'll even spare your brother!"
James. I won't let anything happen to him. No.
I kill both hellhounds and the other empousi. I hold my sword under her chin, drawing a little blood. "Tell End that he won't lay a finger on Camp if he knows better." I say.
I kick her down and she charges me with a dagger. I shrug and stab her through the stomach. I gave her a chance to live.
"I need to summon lightning." Jason grunts, slicing through a tekling.
"Well?" I ask, slicing through another monster. "What's stopping you?"
"I don't have the energy."
I sigh. I'll probably regret this, but it's not like I have a choice. I grab his hand.
He looks over at me confused. I imagine part of my energy going to him. It works.
"What did you just do!?"
"I lent you some energy. You're welcome, but you can thank me later. Just get on with your sparky thingy." I slice off the head of another monster, getting stronger again.
Jason looks at me for a moment, then raises his now javelin, then strikes it down towards the castle. Part of it falls in, and a large fire starts.
Genius! The monsters turn and look at the castle, transfixed, for the moment.
I grab Jason's hand and pull him through the monsters towards Percy and Annabeth, stabbing any that tries to stop me.
I see Zoë and Frank appear on the other side at the same time as us. "We need to go while we can." I tell Annabeth. She nods in agreement.
We start falling back, avoiding monsters for as long as possible.
Then something rips my arm. Pain sears through it as I turn and slice through the tenkling who gave me the injury. We start moving faster, slashing down all monsters who get in our way.
We make it to the ledge. Everyone starts filing down and I turn to see all of the monsters hurrying towards us. I swipe through three and kick another.
"Emily! Come on!" I hear Jason yell behind me. I glance back at them.
My big mistake.
An empousia stabs my side and I yelp. I look down at my side, my hand already holding it. I pull it away to see it covered in blood. I look back up and glare.
"This was my favorite dress!" I scream at her as I decapitate her.
My anger towards End, the monsters, them hurting Alex swells until I see black and I scream in rage.
All around me bones rise, forming human like figures. They hold rusty swords and old daggers.
I look around in shock. I did this?
One looks at me. What will you have us do? A male whisper asks in my head.
"Hold them off, friends." I say. They're not my minions, they're my friends.
They do as asked and I turn and start climbing down slowly, trying, and failing, not to agitate my injury worse than it already is.
I glance up and see the skeletons at the edge, but still fighting back. I glance down at everyone else. "We don't have much more time! The dead can only do so much!"
We were still a good ways from the valley below.
I could see San Fransico in the distance, glimmering under the winter sun. Yes, it's winter. Isn't it?
The snow answered my quesstion as a bitter wind snags at my ragged dress. I sigh. I guess I'll need to get a new one...
Not now, Emily, foccuse on not falling to your death, I tell myself. That's a new one... I am I mad?
We finally reach the bottom. I look to the top where I can still see a squirmish. "You can leave." I whisper.
I feel the dead fall back to the earth, where they belong.
I turn to everyone. "The dead are resting, so that means we need to move. Fast."
"But you're hurt." Percy says, stepping forward.
"Not as bad as your sister. Now, let's go or we'll be worse off." I say quickly.
"Where'd Leo take her?" Percy asks as we start to move, me clutching my bloody side and biting my lip, holding back yelps and tears.
"Just follow us." Annabeth says, holding his hand. A small smile has spread across her face, but my question deminishes it.
"Did Leo even get her there?"
Everyone looks at me. "We have to believe that he did, we don't have another choice." Annabeth says.
