The base is quite, and people just mind their own business. I do the same. In about 6 days we go back to the trenches. And in about 23 we go over the top. I walk to the mess hall, and I see Dean. He's sitting by himself, and he's just staring. I walk to him, and sit down beside him.
Me: Hey
I get no response.
Me: Dean?
Again, no response. This doesn't happen usually.
Me: Dean!
He snaps out of it and he looks at me. He sighs and looks forward.
Dean: Yes sir?
Me: Are you ok?
Dean: I don't know. My mind-
Me: Is the last operation bothering you?
Dean: Yes, it is. I see it in my nightmares. It haunts me
Me: I know how that feels, what it's like. Just don't let it get to you, and don't you dare turn out like me
Dean: Yes sir
I look at the line waiting to get food, and it's quite large. I look back to Dean.
Me: You know where the others are?
Dean: I don't sir
Me: Stop it
Dean: Stop what sir?
Me: Stop with the fucking "yes sir" bullshit
Dean: Why?
Me: I want to be called Spirit, and you call me sir when on an assignment or operation.
Dean: Yes si- I mean Spirit
Me: Alright
I stand up and pat him twice on the back.
Me: I'll see you around
Dean: Yep
With that I leave the mess. I'll return when the line isn't so fucking long. I walk armpit the base, and I explore the base. I look into the armory. This is probably where I'll find Blast and Chuck. They do love their weapons and grenades. I enter and am immediately greeted with the chatter from the two that I was looking for. They are talking about their favorite weapons. I walk to the doorframe and lean in it. I listen to the conversation.
Blast: My favorite weapon will always be the DC-15LE
Chuck: True, but I stick with my DC-15S
Blast: I understa-
Me: DC-17 Valken-38X and the DC-15LE
They immediately jump slightly and jerk their heads in my direction. I push my self off of the doorframe and make my way towards them. They look at me relieved, but then notice that they aren't supposed to be in here and they start to freak out.
Chuck: W-Wait S-Sir we can explain!
Blast: We were just wanting to look at the wea-
Me: I know, and so you won't be reported
Chuck: Thank you
Me: Yep, luckily I'm allowed in here and I can tell them that you two are with me. I also have a pass for the firing range
They look at me confused before Chuck goes wide-eyed and looks at me happily.
Chuck: Really?!
Blast: I don't understand, what's so important?
Me: Well get your guns, we're going to the range
Now it was Blast's turn to go wide eyed, and get excited. He rushes to get a massive gatling-gun, and Chuck gets an NT-242 a DC-15LE and multiple other things.
I turn around to go get my weapons.
Me: Now you two stick with me so you don't get in any trouble.
I look behind me and see that they have already left.
Me: Mother fuckers
I quickly high-tail my ass the fuck out of the building. I see in front of me, the best example of instant karma. Those two didn't make it 5 feet away from the building before being stopped by a supervisor. They are getting yelled at by the sergeant-major. I walk over and look at him.
Me: That's enough
He turns around and looks and me. He doesn't have his helmet on so I can see him smirk at me and speak in the most entitled way.
SM: And who do you think you are?
Me: 2nd Lieutenant Spirit, I'm in charge of the special forces squad that these men are in, and the entire 212th Reconnaissance Division.
He goes wide eyed and his smirk quickly disappears.
Me: Think about what you say next time sergeant
Sergeant: What, I'm a sergeant-major!
Me: Not anymore
He looks at me dumbfounded and he starts to speak.
Sergeant: You can't do that, I did nothing wrong
Me: Oh, I can. You abused your powers, you have been reported for insubordination, and you are arguing with a superior officer
He tries to stutter out something but he can't.
Me: Go away now sergeant
He quickly backs away, and does so with a red face. A crowd has been watching and they have seen a living example of what not to do. They look at the dumbass that just got demoted, and back at me.
Me: Everybody move along, there is nothing to see
I look to the two friends behind me.
