I can't believe it... he's fucking dead. My friend is dead... I'll kill those separatists bastards! We are stuck in this damn forest! At least three of us are. They destroyed two of our speeders! I can't believe this shit. I look to my side and see Chuck and Angel. They are both walking by my side, and they volunteered to do it. I wonder how I got these good friends. I look ahead and keep going, holding back my tears. I have to keep going. I can't stop, Not now, not until we get back. I grip my blaster tight as we make our way through the forest.
Chuck: I can't believe it...
Angel: I don't think that any of us can, I mean he's been with us since basically the beginning, and now he's fucking gone...
I stop and lean against a tree, and I slump back to the ground and toss my helmet off my head. I cry, no I sob. I hear footsteps coming near me, and I feel a pair of arms wrap around me. I've seen to many people I care about die. Crackshot, Bolt, Devil, D, and multiple other unknown troopers. I don't know if I can take it. I hear a beeping. It's Cody. Angel let's go, and I radio in.
Me: Yes sir?
Cody: I heard the news from your team... I'm sorry
Me: It's not your fault sir...
Cody: I know, but I've decided to pull you back, and you'll be on leave for three days. I wanted to give you more time, but that's all that I can give you. You still need to prepare for the assault.
Me: Thank you sir...
Cody: Of course Spirit
With that its quite, and then the silence is broken by Angel.
Angel: I'm sorry, but we need to go, with all due respect-
Me: I know, and we will... I just need a minute, I think we all do...
I really do need this. I need a minute to think, regain my composure. It's just... he's gone, and nothing can change it. I wasn't fast enough, I was to slow. No. This cannot be my fault, I must push forward. I push myself off the ground.
Me: Let's get out of here... for D
Angel: Yeah
Chuck hasn't said anything at all. This is eating at him, but he is holding in his pain. That big bug has bitten me too, but I couldn't hold it in, but I have to now. For my team, and for D, and for Devil. So I march on. My team follows close behind. I'm gripping my blaster in one hand, my helmet in the other, and I hold a cold stare on my tear stained face, slightly looking down. It almost looks like I'm daring then to attack me. The shadow of the trees slightly shadowing my face. I'm hyper focused, I'm on edge, adrenaline is pumping in my body. I hear the crunching of leaves under my feet. I look back to see the others on edge too, but they are crouched down, and breathing heavily. I see the slight shine of a wet rifle in the woods. I order them to halt with silent orders. I bring my blaster to point in the direction. I fire four shots in the woods. I look to see three droids on the ground. I continue after I hear the voice of my dead teammate echo in my head. I then hear the voice of my real teammate.
Chuck: How did you know that they were there?
I stop for a second to look at him.
Me: I just did
I continue to walk to the camp on the green and brown road. His last words still echo fresh in my mind. He said my name. I black out and when I regain consciousness we are back at the base. I'm hot, I'm sweating, and my team is behind me.
Me: This is Spirit-7 requesting EVAC for my team
I here an LAAT pilot confirm the EVAC, and I give the coordinates.
Me: EVAC is arriving soon, pack your shit!
I walk into into the base sadly, and I look in the medical room to see him, his corpse is laying there. I walk to him and take his dog tags, and helmet. I carry him to the spot next to Devil, with an entrenching tool. I hastily dig a grave for my friend, while I weep. I then proceed to put him in the 6 foot deep hole. I close his open, bloodshot, cold eyes, and fill in the hole. I back away and solute him before leaving. I cry as I leave. I calm myself down just enough to stop crying. I get back to see everybody in full gear, with all their stuff. I go back in and get my helmet, and D's dog tags and helmet. I walk back out and wait. After about five minutes of nothing I hear the LAAT in the distance. I see the white dot get larger and larger to form an LAAT. It hovers above the ground and the pilot is Flash. I look at him as he is about I say something, but he notices the helmet and dog tags and stays quiet. We are taken back to the Venator.
