I look at my helmet, I look at the tally marks that symbolize kills. I heard rumors of some 307th medical division joining us on this god forsaken planet. We have been out here for six months. It is now the 3rd of the month. I walk out of the barracks and I see my little group. Angel, D, and Chuck look at me. They just hope that I'm ok. That I got sleep. Me and Angel have been getting to know each other more. Not too much though. She walks up to me and hugs me.
Angel: How did you sleep?
Me: Ok, it sure was better than yesterday.
Angel: Well that's good.
Chuck: You two do know that showing that deep of affection is against regs right?
I look at him, with a small frown.
Me: We aren't just soldiers, we are somewhat human too. We need to look out for each other.
Chuck: I have less emotion than you, and somehow I'm not even as dense as you.
I look at him with confusion. I forget it and I decide that we should go on patrol, all of us. I give the order and they all say "Yes sir" and get ready. I walk to the poor girls bed and see her sound asleep. I put my hand on her forehead, and and she is stone cold. I quickly check her vitals in a panic, nothing. I let a few small tears escape my eyes as I put my helmet on, and I grab an E-5 because we don't have any other weapons. I wait, and five minutes later they are here. We leave and I start getting flashbacks of when it all started. Thoughts about everything fill my mind, and a tear rolls down my cheek. I shake it out of my thoughts. We keep on and on. I give the order to holt. I take point and we move again. As we go I here voices. Droids. I whisper to them.
Me: Ready your weapons.
They do so, and I peak over. I see twenty droids. I look at them and see them ready.
Me: Fire!
We start firing and I see six droids fall. Two from me. Blaster bolts are sent out way soon, and I yell.
Me: Spread out! D you go with Chuck! Angel go with Blast!
D: What about you sir?
Me: I'll be fine trooper! Go!
Adrenaline rushes through my veins as I run with my weapon. As I run I fire. I kill one more as I sprint to cover. I check numbers, and I see 7 left. I see multiple shots being sent on droid positions from my comrades. I see another drop. I see 5 more droids arrive. Two being B2 Rocket droids. Eleven droids. One of the B2s arm his rocket as he sends one in the direction of two of us. I don't know who though. I here It then.
Chuck: Shit! My fucking shoulder!
I feel multiple things then. Shock, fear, but most importantly anger. I jump out of my cover, shooting, and screaming.
Me: You bastards! You will not take another one of my friends you sons of bitches!
As I move forward I shoot, and shoot, and shoot. I feel two thumps on my armor. One on the shoulder, and one on the leg. I start aching in those two places. I keep on. I kill 3 before one tries to hit me. He gets put down by Angel quickly. I keep on. I run for cover firing more, my teammates do the same. I kill one more before I get thrown back from an explosion. I see the droid that did it, it was that other B2. It quickly gets put down. By Angel again. As she runs to me I watch three get thrown in the air from one of Chuck's grenades. I watch him rush out too, right behind Angel. Blast runs behind them. He shoots one in the chest, and the last is disposed of by D. I hear a familiar sound. An LAAT. I look to the sky, and I see 4-6 of them. I can't tell. It's blurry because of the dirt, and dust on my visor. I hear my teammates.
Chuck: We need a flare!
Blast: I have one!
Chuck: Fire it!
He quickly loads it, and fires. One of the LAATs notices this, and gets down. They open the doors to see five clones. All holding E-5s, with one wounded. They rush to me, pick me up and load me and the others into the LAAT, I can't stop thinking about base, about clean armor, a bunk, good food, and Devil. He got what he wanted. I made it back alive. I pass out, but I do so knowing that I'm going. I'm going home.
