"But how do we get to Germany?" I frown. "I can only teleport alone."

"I have a place. In the city, it's not far. I think a friend of mine lives here or something. I can ask."

We try to unlock the door that leads to the stairs. "It's locked," I mutter. "What a surprise."

Then Rowan grabs my right arm and pulls me through  the door. We both just go through it like it's nothing. And then I'm staring at the other side of it, flights stairs right in front of me.

"How the fuck--" I start, but he shakes his head.

"I promise I'll tell you everything once we get there." Rowan stops me. "It's unbelievable, but I can tell you. After we get to my friend's house."

"Then why not now?"

"We're not safe here."

We wait outside the hotel. Rowan texted his said school-friend-from-last-year if she could come pick us up, and she said yes. I remember my glasses and sigh. "I'm going to need to pop into my house and get my glasses so I don't have to keep wearing this."

"How do you know they're right where you left them?" Rowan asks.

"I don't," I mumble. "But I'm going."

"Okay. Good luck."

I pop into my room, mask on my face. I look on my nightstand for my round=ish black-and-green-and-blue glasses, but they're not there. Shit.

I look around my room frantically, panicking, and I finally spot them on my dresser.

So I quickly limp over there and pick them up. It's a good thing JARVIS, my dad's AI, isn't connected to my room. No one knows I'm up here.

But then I freeze when the door opens and my dad walks in.

I'm lucky he doesn't see the ends of my hair since I'm wearing a bun that covers the tips, in case something like this happened, which would completely give away who I am. Unfortunately, I have nothing to mask my extremely thin frame and the fact that I am clearly underweight, which makes me incredibly identifiable.

Panicking, I grab the glasses and a bracelet with my birthstone sapphire and my zodiac sign Virgo, just for good measure acting like I'm robbing Stark Tower.

His mouth opens in surprise, anger, shock, fear, and a hint of recognition.

I hear him start to say something, but I don't hear it properly or understand, since I'm gone.

I pop back next to Rowan, scaring the shit out of him. I start laughing at the expression on his face.

That's when I notice a woman with long hair and gray eyes, stormy and fierce. Her skin is pale enough to rival my unnatural, almost stark-white skin, and she's tall and lean. Why is everyone so tall?

Her white hair, catching the sunlight and shining, in contrast to my raven black hair, is the complete opposite of my raven-black hair, almost completely white. "I'm Evangeline," she says emotionlessly, sticking out her hand, which is lined with silver rings, to shake mine.
