A/N: Sorry it is a little shorter than usual!
I stand outside the school and wait for Warren to come out. It's his last day and I promised that I would be here to pick him up so he wouldn't have to take the bus. Kids are running out of the school and heading in all directions. The excitement of summer is clearly all they are thinking about. I look around until I finally spot Warren walking down the steps, the last Harry Potter book in his hands and talking to a girl who looks about his age. A smile spreads across my face as I realize he might actually have made a friend.
"Oh! That's my older sister! I have to go!" He quickly rushes.
I walk over to him, "Hey! You two can talk for a little bit. I don't mind waiting."
He looks a little flustered and it's actually really adorable. The young girl smiles at me and I give her a small wave. A woman walks up to us and from her looks I assume she is the young girl's mother.
"Rosie are you ready, love?" Her British accent is thick and I'm instantly jealous of it. She looks up and gives me a warm smile.
"Hi, you must be Warren's mother? I've heard all about him from Rosie."
Heard all about him? How long have they been friends? Wait, did she just say mother? I'm not that old!
"Oh! No! I'm his older sister. My name is Rowan."
"Oh! I'm sorry! Well, it's lovely to meet you! Actually, I was wondering if I could have your mother's number. Rosie has been talking about having a play date with Warren. If he wants to of course."
I look over at Warren and he nods his head, a nervous smile on his face. Finally, he made a friend, that's the only thing that I can think of right now.
"Yes! That sounds great! You can just call our house phone. She should be home from work soon," I explain to her.
She writes down the number and then rushes off to bring Rosie to ballet. I don't have a car yet so Warren and I are left to walk, but we've been doing that since I began picking him up from school and it's been fun. He talks about books constantly but I love books so it works out.
"So, who's the girl?"
Blush instantly flushes his cheeks, "She's new. She moved here this year but I haven't really talked to her until this week."
"I told you that you would make friends soon."
"Yeah, yeah. You're so smart," the sarcasm pours out of his voice, causing a wave of laughter to erupt form my lips.
"All right. Let's go get ice cream and celebrate the start of summer!"
His face lights up, "Yes!"
.....
I walk into the house and find my dad sitting on the couch. He looks up when I walk in and gives me a smile.
"Hey," I quietly mumble.
"Hi. Where have you been?"
"Out with my friends."
"It's pretty late," he comments.
I roll my eyes, "It's only midnight. I'm fine. Goodnight."
He doesn't say anything after that and for that I'm thankful. The two of us have not really talked since I ran out of the house a few nights ago. He has tried to talk about it but I have shut him down each time.
"Ro?" Chad's familiar voice instantly wakes me up.
He's standing outside of Eric's room and looks concerned.
