After dinner, Remus went up to his new room. He grinned at the thought. My new room. The young boy pulled out a long sleeved t-shirt, adorned with holes from the years of wear, as well as a pair of black joggers. He left his room and went into the bathroom. He stared at the shower in awe. It was so much nicer than any shower he had ever used before. Maybe it even had hot water. Don't be unrealistic. Remus shrugged and turned on the shower, practically glowing when he felt the hot water splashing against his hand. After removing his flannel and jeans, Remus stepped under the stream of hot water and let out an audible groan. He hadn't had a hot shower in years. Taking his time to wash his body, Remus felt himself relax far more than he'd ever done before. After about 20 minutes, he forced himself to turn the water off and step out of the shower. He found a towel in the closet and dried his curls as well as his body, changing into the more comfortable clothing. After hanging up the towel, Remus left the bathroom, only to collide with something. Or rather, someone.
"Hey bud. Did you have a nice shower?" Patton asked with a smile. However, Remus felt anything but happy. I forgot to ask. Now he's going to have to punish you. "I-I'm so sorry. I should've asked. I'm sorry, I promise it won't happen again," Remus whimpered as he backed away from the now concerned man. "Re, it's perfectly okay. You can shower whenever you want to. You don't have to ask my permission," Patton said softly, moving toward the shaking boy. Remus looked into Patton's honey eyes and relaxed almost immediately. This was Patton, not his parents. "I'm still sorry. I've only been here for a day and I've already caused so many problems. I'm too much work." Patton gasped. "No, Remus, you're not too much work! You are a wonderful young boy and we couldn't be happier to have you here!" Remus couldn't help but smile, even if he didn't agree. "I was about to grab a blanket for Logan and I. We're just hanging out downstairs if you want to join us!" Remus nodded. "Id like that a lot," he said almost in a whisper. Patton practically beamed. "Perfect! Would you like a blanket as well?" "W-well, if it's not too much trouble..." "Nonsense!" Patton ran into his room, returning with three incredibly fluffy blankets. Remus' eyes widened in excitement. He had never seen a blanket so soft. Patton handed the soft material to Remus, who immediately wrapped up in the blanket. Patton chuckled. "Come on, kiddo. Let's go find Logan, yeah?" Remus nodded and followed Patton down the stairs, only tripping twice. Remus giggled sheepishly once he reached the bottom. "You're quite the clumsy one, aren't you?" Logan asked with a smirk. Remus just giggled again, attempting to hide his blushing face behind his blanket. Patton sat on the couch next to Logan, immediately cuddling the blanket he brought for himself. Logan snatched the other blanket, reveling in its warmth. Once they were both comfortable and content, they looked up to find Remus still standing, an unreadable expression on his face. "What is it, Remus?" Patton asked with a soft voice. "I..well.." "Don't worry, we won't be upset with you," Logan reassured. "My parents told me that I didn't deserve to sit on the furniture. They said I only deserved the floor. If...if I promise to be good, can I sit on the couch with you?" Remus whispered the last part. Patton and Logan felt their hearts clench. Patton was about to comfort the boy when Logan took action, surprising him greatly. "Come here, darling. You are always welcome to sit on the furniture. You don't have to ask or earn it." Logan opened his arms, allowing the thin boy to sit next to him and lean into his arms. Patton couldn't help the tears that stung his eyes. Logan was really letting his stoic facade crumble for this boy, and it was the most heartwarming thing Patton had ever seen. "Thank you," Remus whispered, enjoying the warmth of his...well technically his father but...not exactly. Remus wasn't sure. Of course, he knew he was adopted by them, so they were his parents. But...he was still confused. "Can I ask you guys a question?" Remus asked quickly. "Of course bud. Ask away," Patton encouraged. "Well...I know you adopted me so you're like my parents, but do I have to call you..not that I don't want to! It's just, I don't know, I-" Logan tightened his grip on the boy, holding him close. "You do not have to call us anything that you are not comfortable with. Patton and Logan is just fine if you'd prefer," Logan said softly. Remus nodded. "I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I just-" "Nonsense. You don't have to force yourself to be comfortable with something you're not for our sake. We will care for you all the same," Logan replied, effectively calming the boy. Remus leaned against Logan's shoulder as the man ran his fingers through his hair softly. About 10 minutes later, Logan felt a weight on his shoulder. He looked down to see a sleeping Remus curled into his chest. Logan made a slight noise, trying to get Patton's attention. Patton looked to the source of the sound, grinning widely at the sight of his husband and son cuddling. Patton let out a quiet "aww", unable to contain himself. Logan just chuckled lightly, holding his child close. "It's getting late, Lo. We should probably head to bed," Patton whispered softly. Logan nodded, shifting so that he could pick up Remus. Once he was standing with the sleeping boy in his arms, Logan walked up the stairs and went into Remus' room. Patton followed the pair, pulling down the comforter and sheets so that they could tuck Remus in for the night. Logan laid him down carefully, pulling the covers over his thin body. "Goodnight bud," Patton said softly. Logan just brushed the boy's curls out of his face, silently showing his care for him. Both men watched their son for only a moment longer before leaving the room quietly and entering their own. They couple remained in a comfortable silence as they changed into pajamas and crawled into bed, immediately curling up next to each other under the covers. "Goodnight, my love," Logan said lowly. "Goodnight Lo," Patton whispered back. They soon fell asleep, reveling in each other's warmth.
Until they heard a heart wrenching scream.
