CHAPTER TEN

ox. halloween of 2000

IT HAD BEEN 7 months since Nora Allen had died. It had been 7 months since Henry Allen was thrown into Iron Heights for her murder. It had been 7 months since Chloe Allen had seen her mother die right in front of her eyes. It had been 7 months since Chloe had looked into the eyes of a monster. It had been 7 months since Chloe Allen's life was turned upside down. It was Halloween night, October 31, 2000.

And the 14 year old was sulking in her room in Joe West's house, well... It was her home now too. Her, Barry, her mother and father always went trick or treating together, or did some stupid corn maze thing. Halloween was a big thing for the Allen's, Chloe never knew why her mom loved Halloween so much, she just did.

But now she was gone and so was her dad, she knew Barry was also sulking but, he decided it would be fun to make the most of it and he had asked to go trick or treating with Iris and Joe, they agreed. They asked Chloe if she wanted to come, her answer was a cold and hard no.

So here she sat looking at old photos of every Halloween night, except for this one. Her mother was dead and her father was locked up in prison. She'd never be able to take a picture with either of them ever again.

Tears pricked at the edge of Chloes vision as she stared down at the now crumbled photo in her hand. She had crumbled it out of frustration, when she first moved into the West household she would go out and smash bottles in her schools parking lot, not the best idea, but Chloe needed to vent somehow and anger just seemed to be her way.

And sobbing, lots and lots of sobbing. It was a photo of just her and her mom, them both smiling so brightly; it was from the year before. Chloe wished she could smile like that again.

Maybe one day when she joined whatever afterlife there was she would see her mom again, and her mother would have the same bright smile on her face as she did all those years ago. Maybe she would light up Chloes cold heart again, maybe she would soon learn to love Halloween once again.

But for now the 14 year old, sat at the edge of her bed sobbing as she clutched the crumpled picture closer to her chest. "I- I m.. m.. miss you m- mom..." Chloe chocked out in sobs.

In a few years Chloe would soon learn that Barry had found his older sister, cuddled up to the picture, with a dried tear stained face. And that was when he decided he would try and make her happy once again. He promised himself to try and keep a smile on her face for as long as possible, she had taken the death harder than him, so he promised to help her out as she would help him.

And years later when Chloe had came to him a crying mess, he remembered his unspoken promise and he had gotten her to smile almost as bright as she did on that last Halloween night they'd ever have with their mother.
