Hudson took Greer home at ten the next morning. When they pulled in the driveway Hudson rushed around to Greer's side of the car. He scooped her up in his arms to take her to the house. She asked, "What are you doing?"He told her, "You are on bedrest. I'm going to make sure that you are sticking to it for you and Presley. Do you want to go up to your room or be on the couch for a while?"
"H, I can walk."
"I know, but I want to restart. I want to really show you that I am going to change and be there for you and Presley. Let me start now. You will have the next two weeks without me here breathing down your neck during the day, just let me take care of you while I am here."
"Thank you for everything."
They got to the door and they walked in. Hudson put her down on the couch. Clara, Ethan, and Grace came in. Grace said, "How are you feeling?"
Greer told her, "A little sore, but much better. I'm just happy to be out of the hospital. Hudson here is going a little bit overboard."
"Nah. It's about time that he stepped up some. Did I hear you call my granddaughter by name yesterday?"
Greer smiled. "Yes. Presley Kate."
"I love it. She is sure to be adorable. You aren't going to talk about giving her up anymore, are you? I don't know that my heart could handle it now that I know that she is my granddaughter."
"No more. I know it isn't going to be easy, but I love this baby. I can't imagine giving her to someone else to love. I know I'm not going to be the best mom, but I'm going to do my very best to take care of her and give her all that she needs."
Clara said, "I know I'm not the best person, but I will be here to help in anyway that I can. When you have the clear I want to go shopping for Presley. I want a chance to change the way we were."
"I would really like that. It sucks not to have anyone and I don't want Presley to ever feel the same way I do. I'm glad she is going to have a family. I just hope you can love her, even if you don't like me very much."
"It's not that. I was jealous of how much you meant to Hudson. I hated it that he wanted to spend more time with you than me. I couldn't handle it."
"I never meant for that to happen. I was just happy to have friends."
"I'm sorry I took that away. It was nowhere near fair."
Hudson sat next to her on the couch and said, "But all of that is going to change. I'm going to make sure of it. When you go back to school I want it to go back to the way it was. I want lunch with you and to help you get to your classes."
Greer rolled her eyes, "I'm pregnant, not an invalid. Lunch sounds good, but I don't need help getting to classes. I can take care of myself. I have needed to for a long time. Grace, have you heard anything from my parents? It's been months and they are right next door."
Grace said, "Honey, I ran into them the week after you started living here. All I want you to know is no matter what we love having you here. We can't wait to meet that sweet baby and as far as I am concerned you are our family. Please don't ever feel alone when you have us. I know we aren't family by blood, but you are our family."
"Thank you. I don't know where I would be without all of you."
"No need to find out either. Now you need to rest. Let us know if you need anything and we will make sure that it is taken care of."
Ethan told her, "We've decided that the second guestroom will be turned into a room for the baby."
Greer sniffled. "The baby can share a room with me. I don't need a whole room to myself. I can't let you all give up more than you already have for us."
"No ma'am. Our granddaughter is going to have her own space when you are ready for her to move out of your room."
Hudson asked, "Are you ready to look at things for the nursery? I can bring you my laptop and we can look into nursery themes. Then when you are feeling better we can buy what Presley needs."
Greer sat up, "I'm ready to look if you are." Greer's hand went straight to her stomach. She rubbed her stomach and smiled.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. The baby kicked."
Hudson just looked at her. He wanted to ask if he could feel. He wanted to be involved, but he didn't want to press his luck so soon after getting to an okay place with Greer. He wanted to make sure that things stayed well with them.
Greer took his hand and placed it on her stomach. She told him, "She is your daughter. You have to feel this. It's crazy."
Hudson smiled as he felt their daughter kick against his hand, "That is amazing. She already has some legs on her."
"Yeah, she does."
Grace smiled and asked, "Do you mind?"
Greer chuckled and said, "No. She wants to say hi to her grandma. Are you going to be a grandma or something else?"
Grace put her hand on Greer's stomach and told her, "I would love to be anything other than grandma, but if that is what she wants to call me then I will be happy with it."
Greer said, "What about Gigi?"
"I love it!"
Ethan asked, "What about me?"
Hudson asked, "Yeah. What about you? What do you want our girl to call you?"
"Papa or gramps."
Hudson laughed. "You are definitely a gramps."
"Sounds good to me."
Hudson stayed on the couch with Greer with his hand on her stomach. He had only felt this close to someone one other time and that was also with Greer. He didn't know where the future would take them, but he knew he was going to be there for his daughter from the very beginning.
