It was spring break. Greer was seven months pregnant. She was freaking out. She was in major nesting mode and they hadn't started the nursery.
She had gotten the cast off of her arm and she had been moved to a boot rather than a cast on her leg. As she was pacing Hudson came up and asked, "What's wrong?"
Greer started sobbing. "The nursery isn't done. She isn't going to have somewhere to sleep. I need to get her a bassinet for my room. I mean I guess she isn't going to be in her nursery for the first month anyway."
"We will get it done this week. Then all we will have to do is wait for her to decide to join us. The bassinet will be moving from your room to my room. We are a team, remember?"
"I plan on breastfeeding. That isn't something that you can really help with though."
"Then you will have to pump for me then. I'm not going to be a dad that sits off to the side. I want to help in any way that I can."
"I'm impressed that you have done your research. I guess we could make that work."
"I told you I am going to be doing everything that I can to be a good dad. I don't think I can handle letting anyone else that matters to me down. Lets go get Clara and do some shopping. I'm sure I could get Jonas and dad to help me put things together."
"I can help put the stuff together."
"I don't want you stressing anymore."
"Thank you for that."
"Lets go shopping. I'm too excited."
"Then let's go." They grabbed Clara and they were off to the store.
Greer and Clara were putting clothes away while Hudson and Jonas were putting furniture together. Clara told her, "Presley is going to be the best dressed baby. I love the rose theme for her nursery. I ordered the name sign that you showed Hudson a couple of months ago. I'm hoping that it will be here in time for your shower."
Greer looked at her and asked, "What shower?"
"Your baby shower. Mom and I are planning it for next month."
"No, I don't need a shower. You all are doing more than enough for me."
"No way. I told you I am going to spoil my niece. This is where I start. Mom is worse than I am. She can't wait for this baby. I'm so glad that things are getting better for us."
"I am too. Thank you for everything you have done for me and Presley."
Hudson came over and said, "The bassinet is put together and in my room for now. I want to make sure that you have extra room until she gets here. The crib is in the process. So is the stroller and high chair. I'll put the car seat in the car soon. We're getting somewhere this week. What else do we need? We are going to start painting that light pink that you picked out tonight. I don't want you around the fumes, missy."
"I'll be fine."
"I don't care if you think so or not. This is something that I want to do for my daughter. You need some rest anyway. You've been going nonstop today. You have to rest up while you can. Presley is going to be here before we know it."
"Fine. If it will chill you out, I'll do it."
Grace came in and said, "Let me see what you bought for my granddaughter."
Greer got up with the help of Clara and Hudson. Greer pulled out the mobile and bedding they had bought.
Grace squealed, "It's beautiful. I love the rose theme you are going with. She is going to be the best dressed and most spoiled little princess."
Hudson told her, "I plan to make it happen. As soon as I graduate I'm getting a job."
"What about college?"
"I need to provide for Presley first."
"Your dad and I will help. You need to get an education."
"I will, but right now I need to think about the baby."
Greer took his hands and said, "Wasn't it you that told me earlier that this was a team. We are in this together. I'm going to get a job and you are going to take classes."
"I don't think so."
Grace stopped them both, "You are both going to college. You can get jobs after classes, but I want nothing more than to see you both graduate and spend time with Presley while she is still young. I regret not getting to spend time with you kids while you were younger. You don't have to worry about childcare. I'm watching our girl while you are in classes."
Hudson sighed. He knew there was no winning, but he would be more than happy to spend time with his baby while she was little.
Greer told her, "I can't keep taking things from you. You have already done so much for us."
"You are family. We stick together. Plus, I want to spend as much time with my granddaughter as I can. I know the two of you are going to be hands on parents and I won't get to spend much time with her other than when you are in classes."
"I guess I can handle that. I just hate feeling like I'm sponging off of you."
"You are not sponging off of us."
Hudson wrapped his arm around Greer. She smiled up at him and said, "I know Presley was not planned, but I also know that she happened for a reason."
Hudson told her, "That is exactly how I feel. I know she is going to change our lives, but in the best way possible."
"Most definitely."
"I need to get back to putting stuff together. I want to get everything finished by the end of the week." They all went to work on preparing for Presley.
