Greer and Hudson were in a good place. They had been making it work. They were spending every free moment together that they had. It was the start of their winter break. It had been hard, but the semester was over and they were ready to continue their life together. Greer rolled over and kissed Hudson on the head. He streched and smiled, "I will never get tired of waking up to this sight."
Greer smiled and said, "Good morning, baby. Are you ready to go wake up our girl? Can you believe that she is already seven months old? Where did it go? She is going to be a year old before we know it."
"I know. It's crazy. What are we going to do today?"
"Get married?"
Hudson looked at her and said, "What?"
"I can't imagine putting it off any longer. I want to be with you and Presley. We have a month off from classes, but we have to go back to work next week. I'd love to have some time with the two of you right after getting married."
"Then lets get up and get dressed. Are we going to tell anyone or are we going to do this just the three of us?"
"I want Grace, Ethan and Clara to be there. They have been there from the beginning for us."
"Okay. We can do this then."
"I'm going to run out to the car and get the outfit I bought when I went shopping yesterday with Grace and Clara."
"Great! I'll make sure that mom, dad and Clara are there. I'll start getting Essie ready for our exciting day. I love you and I can't wait to be married to you this afternoon. This is all I have ever wanted."
"I love you too, baby." Greer gave him a kiss and walked out to the car.
As Greer was going back into the house she looked over to see the person that she had managed to avoid for the last year. It was truly a miracle that she had made it that long without running into her father. She tried to get in the house quickly, but she wasn't quick enough. Her father came over and asked, "What are you doing at the James'? Don't tell me that you made them feel sorry for you and they took you in. Did you do the smart thing and give the baby up?"
Greer started seething and said, "You have no right to talk about me or my daughter. The James' have been amazing. They were there for me when my own family wasn't. I couldn't thank them enough. They have loved my girl from the very beginning just as I had hoped her family would."
"Daughter huh? I hope she doesn't turn out to be a big disappointment like you did. Hopefully she will wait to get impregnated until she has an actual relationship. How is it being a single mother at 18 anyway?"
"I am not a single mother. Presley has a wonderful dad that couldn't love her anymore if he tried. His world revolves around the two of us and doing everything that he can to be there for us and make us happy."
"Don't hold your breath for it to last. He is going to realize that he is just with you for the baby anyway. You really aren't that special. You are just another statistic."
"He loves me. He loves our baby. We are getting married and going to start our life together. I'm sorry if you feel that I am not good enough, but this is who I am now. I am a mother and that is the best job I have ever had."
Hudson came outside and when he saw that Greer had tears in her eyes he went into protective mode. He said, "Hey babe. Are you okay? Mom is getting Presley dressed. We should be able to go as soon as you are ready. Everything okay out here?"
"Yeah, babe. My dad was just here telling me how much of a disappointment I am."
Hudson told him, "You couldn't be more wrong. Greer has done nothing but do an amazing job with our daughter. She is the perfect mother."
Greer's dad laughed, "ha. That is hilarious. You are children. That poor baby."
"The only thing that is sad when it comes to Presley is that she isn't going to know her other side of the family. My family couldn't love our sweet girl anymore than they do."
"Just because they feel like they have to."
"That is the biggest lie I have ever heard. Presley is absolutely perfect in every way."
"Until she gets pregnant at seventeen and ruins everything that you thought that she would become."
Hudson could see how he was upsetting Greer. He kissed her and said, "Come on, babe. Let's get inside. We have some things to get ready for today. We are not going to let her ruin our good day."
As soon as the door closed behind them Greer started sobbing. Hudson held her in his arms and said, "Baby, it is okay. I'm right here and I always will. Do not worry about what he said. You know it isn't true. You are an amazing mother and our girl couldn't love you any more than she does."
"But everything he said..."
"Hurt, but is not true. I love you. We are going to get married and I am going to show you that I love you for the rest of my life. It doesn't have to be today, but I'll be ready whenever you are."
"Please can we go on with our plans. I can't let my father ruin my life anymore."
"If you are ready, I'm ready."
The two of them went on to get dressed and ready for their big day.
Greer and Hudson were married. They couldn't have been happier with each other. They were having some pictures taken with each other and Presley when Presley wrapped her arms around her arms around her neck and said, "Mama."
Greer and Hudson both gasped. Greer smiled and said, "Yes! I'm your mommy! Your first word on the day that mommy and daddy get married. So perfect! I love you sweet girl."
Hudson kissed both of their heads and said, "I'm so happy to be with my girls. Today has to be tied for the best day of my life. Today and the day that Presley was born."
"We love you too, daddy."
Clara said, "Give me my sweet niece. The two of you need to have a night alone for the two of you."
"But..."
"No. You two need a night alone. You hardly ever have a night to yourselves. I'm offering to babysit. Please let me."
Grace said, "And your dad and I are paying for your night in the hotel. Don't even fight us on it. We love the two of you so much and we are so glad that the two of you are happy together."
Greer and Hudson just thanked them and went on to the hotel.
