I laid in bed staring up at the moonlit ceiling waiting for sleep to encounter me. I looked at the time and it was 2:22, I sighed and implanted both feet on the cold floor. I put on my shoes and put on a sweater. I slowly opened my door hoping that my door wouldn't make any cracks to wake any of them up. I slid through the crack of the door and closed it softly. Cursing from every quick and quiet step I made it in the hallway and down the stairs. I finally made it to the front door. My dad was still sleeping on the couch. Hesitating into opening this door or the back door. I ran quietly towards the kitchen and opened the back door. Waking my dad is the last thing I wish to happen. I slipped through the door the same way I did to my door and walked around to the front of the house and onto the sidewalk.

I put my hands through my pockets noticing the drop in temperature. I looked over my shoulder hoping no one was near me.

I thought about the memory of when I was little. I was innocent when I was little but there was a little incident that happened a long time ago. It was when I was ten. My parents and I were invited to this Thanksgiving dinner. It was my aunt Nelious' invitation. It was packed with unfamiliar faces. Only my parents knew almost all the people. I guess some were my cousins. My parents wanted to let me know everyone they knew so we came across this unknown man. He had a black heavy coat he looked about in his mid-twenties and he had a hat. That's all I remember him having. We asked aunt Nelious about him. All she did was shrug her shoulders while she held a big bowl of salad. We showed her who we were talking about and that smile was wiped right off her very pretty face. The bowl slipped from her hands and onto the hard floor with a loud shatter of glass. Everyone quiet down into hushed voices and stared at the mess on the floor or at aunt Nelious. Some gasped at the loud shatter of glass hitting the floor. Others stared with wide eyes.

"Sorry everyone, that was an accident, I wasn't paying attention." Everyone was getting louder and back to its original volume. Both the man and my aunt Nelious went outside. I heard aunt Nelious arguing with him. Then my mom and dad went home. A week later, on the news aunt, Nelious was found dead under a bridge at a creek in Philadelphia.

I learned after her death that aunt Nelious was my mom's little sister. I remember being at that funeral two days after her death. My mom stayed in the dark for about a month.

I looked both ways before running across the street. After dragging my feet across the gravel in the driveway, I finally came up to a house aunt Nelious last lived in. But I stopped dead in my tracks once I saw a man looking both ways before slipping silently inside. My eyes going wide and being surprised made me stand there in utter silence. I started walking as fast as I could towards the house. I slipped inside the house and looked around the dark webbed place. Memories coming back to me when I was last in this house. I remember I made a new friend here. He was my cousin, despite him being older than me, his name was Joey or Jackie, I don't know, It starts with a J. I remember I used to seat on the now dusty coach and talk to him about how My dad was very goofy and odd to the point where I thought he wasn't my dad at times, while my aunt was outside talking to that unknown man.

I walked up the stairs and hid in a dark corner waiting for this man that was in this room I never saw in my life. He was on the phone.

"Yeah, I'm here. Now, what do I do?" His voice was a rich Italian accent. My heart started to race once he walked out of the room. He walked past me unnoticed and continued to talk on his phone.

"I'm doing that." I heard him mumble from him being in one of the guest rooms.

I woke up finding my roommate sleeping and snoring silently. Something didn't feel right. Normally I would check on Layla and see if she's doing okay, but tonight, it just doesn't feel right.
