I stood in disbelief as Murkan sauntered up to us with  his usul confident smirk on his face.

"Long time no see Ayla"

"What are you doing Murkan" i said even though the answer was clear as the guards surrounded us

Sinik stood behind me his stance tense and battle ready. My father stood the same. His eyes narrowed as they flickered from one guard to the next and back again.

Taylen wiggled agitatedly in my arms. the danger of the situation made my heart rate sped to impossible heights. I could not let them take me and I could especially not let them take my son. the truth of his dual race would be discovered, then death will undoubtedly follow with the revelation.

"Its over Ayla. I've  told them everything. You and all your traitor friends have been rounded up. The Order will not harm them if you come with us peacefully."

My friends? I gasped audibly. Did he have Nova? Is that why she was not eating with me today? Taron? Is that why I had not seen him in months? O god. Suddenly all the past  visions I had fluttered to the forefront of my mind. Were they coming true?. Nova dead. Taron badly beaten and barely alive?

But then Murkan was there too? Why would he be beaten unconscious by the enemy when he was standing here right now working with the enemy?

I shook away the unanswered questions and focused back on the traitor. He stood so self assured waiting for my surrender, as if it were inevitable.

I clenched my teeth with fury. I could not believe we had trusted this cretin. I was only glad that he had not heard everything. The conversation about getting battle ready, I had with the late fae king, my grandfather, was unknown to him.

I should have known he would not be trustworthy. Even after everything. Betrayal was a bitter taste in my mouth as we faced off with one another.

He looked completely unapologetic. Unfeeling. Uncaring.

"Take them" Murkan demanded when he realized I would not easily concede.

As soon as the words left his mouth all hell broke loose

Sinik unsheathed his dual blades he kept hidden and took a slash at one of the guards as my father moved to attack the one closest to him.

I stepped back trying to shield and protect my baby form the chaos

A guard gripped my arm forcefully while I was not paying attention. Immediately I used my power to crush it. He quickly released me as he howled in pain

Bodies began to fall around me as Sinik and my father battled

Suddenly someone fired their gun. Sinik dropped to the ground followed by my father

I stared in horror as they were hit with some odd black circular device. It was attached to their necks and had rendered them instantly unconscious.

I growled with anger as I held Taylen closer to my chest

"You will not win Ayla just surrender...now". His arrogant smirk was gone and a fierce expression crossed his face

Did he truly think this would be that easy?

I glance at my father and protector on the ground before my eyes swung back to murkan

Vicious determined filled my mind. I would have to get us out of here and as Taylen began to cry a savage anger consumed me. I would not fail my son. I would not let them take him.

Murkan noticed the look in my eyes. he visibly paled and began to back up

He had seen what I was capable of. It baffled me that he thought he would win this standoff. He was powerful in his own right no doubt, but we both know who was the more formidable foe between us. He could not even use his power in the facility. It would cause too much structural  damage, which granted me even more advantage.

I raised my free hand before anyone could fire and flung them all back. They soared almost 20 feet back landing with a deafening crunch.

It would not keep them down for long

I stepped to my father and wretched the device of his neck. His eyes popped open immediately. He jumped to his feet In a swift fluid motion. I moved to wake Sinik. He looked stunned for a moment before he regained his composure and stood as quickly as my father had. Retrieving his blades we hurriedly ran for the exit

I noticed the dining hall had miraculously emptied.

We sped  down corridor after corridor. Never stopping or looking back.

Just as the exit was in sight a group of guards appeared from around a corner blocking our way out and halting us. Furious I handed Taylen to my father. He took him watching me as did Sinik. Neither had ever seen me use my full power.

I stood in a battle stance while the guards pointed their weapons at us with  lethal intent

I swiped my hands at the ones standing in the front of their formation. Instantly their necks snapped back with a horrible popping sound before they dropped lifelessly to the ground

the guards behind them stepped back in shock, looking a bit more apprehensive now that I had just killed 8 of their comrades with a single hand wave

I stalked toward them with murder in my eyes.

before I could lift my hand again one of them shot their weapon

I watched in terror as the shot surged forward and slammed into someone behind me.

I spun around and watched Sinik crumble to the floor. Smoke rising from his chest

"SINIK!" I screamed

My father stared at Sinik wide eyed as he clutched Taylen closer to him.

The florescent glow that had not made an appearance since I fled the siege on the fae castle, came roaring back with a vengeance. It slithered up my arms lighting my blood with a fearsome intensity.

The guards paled as they all began to step back with every advancing step I made.

I raised my hand and made a tight fist. Yanking my hand down in a forceful gesture, I watched with unabashed glee as all the remaining guards froze then began to choke and sputter. Blood poured from their mouths as one by one they dropped dead  to the floor, alongside their companions.

Unfazed by the gruesome scene I turned and hurried over to Sinik. His wound was deep but not fatal. At least not yet. He would need medical treatment and soon. His eyes were heavy with impending unconsciousness.

"Come Ayla, we need to leave now" my father stated with urgency

He handed me Taylen and moved to pick up Sinik. With his limp arm slung over his shoulder he half carried, half dragged him as we dashed for the exit.

The fresh air smacked me in the face as we emerged. It was cooler than I expected, but the open air was a welcome respite from the staleness that permeated the facility.

A million emotions assaulted me as we continued to flee through the woods. As Sinik continued to leak blood, I could only hope we would make it to safety and find help before he succumbed to his injury....................................................

Is anyone else stunned by how badass Ayla truly is

Murkan the traitor who is not surprised?

Do you think Sinik will survive?
