The aftermath of the ambush was just as chaotic as the attack
People were scared and alarmed. the children shreiked and cried. the wounded were hastily being corraled into the medical tent. Reena would have her hands full for days.
But the most obvious repercussion of the attack other than the knowledge that we had a traitor among us was the further dissention
Many witnessed what i had done and were even more wary and distrustful than ever
I expected to feel ashamed and horrified by what i had done but when i reflected on it i realized all i felt was satisfaction
I could still feel the power coursing through me. Endless fierce and heady.
I told myself they were threats to my loved ones; Taylen, my father. I would unapologetically slaughter a country full of people before i let one hair on his precious head come to harm.
They meant to kill us and it was either them or me
I helped with the cleanup stoically. Witnessing how people whom ventured to closely, scurried away
I ignored them
"Ayala"
I turned to see my father. he held Taylen securely in his arms
"Come"
I looked at him assessing if he too feared me, but all i saw in his gaze was concern
I followed him into a large nearby tent
As i walked in i quickly noted the people standing around a table
Besides my father and I, there stood Sinik, Kizan another dragonman my father and her
Kizan walked to me. He ran his hands frantically over me checking for wounds
I smacked them away quickly glaring at him.
"Are you all well? Have you seen the healer?"
I heard his "friend" Huff wiht annoyance ans Sinik chortle with amusement
"She does not need a healer everyone else perhaps."
"Why am i here? Why is she here?" i growled angrily
The tension in the room rose
So this was the way it was to be then everyone fearing me
"She...is".. Kizan struggled. the first time i ever heard him do so
"I am his betrothed" she answered smugly
So they had worked it out i assumed.
I turned to her with a smirk of my own
"Good for you" i smiled ferally
Something in my eye scared her because her smug smiled faded and she stepped back
"We, require your assistance and valued opinion on the attack we just barely survived". the other dragon man present said
"You only survived because of my daughter . And i am not a fan of how your people have treated her since she rescued you all. Is gratitude not an emotion your people know how to convey. If so we can reside elsewhere". My father barked
The man walked closer to me bowing
"Ayala. On behalf of my ignorant people, i apologize and thank you. i have heard much about you. your skills were grossly underestimated. We would be tremendously honored to have you continue to stay with us. I am Alanor"
His gaze held high esteem and deep unabashed lust
Two distinct growls erupted in the room at his suggestive tone
I smiled back at him
"you are most welcome."
"Can we get to why we are here?, or do you require more time to flirt" Sinik spat
"Well if your offering" i sass not removing my eyes from Alanor
He was beautiful indeed. His hair was a deep rich brown that he wore trimmed on either side with a braid down the middle, trailing his back. But His eyes were the most striking they were a rich golden hue
Alanor chuckled as he moved back to his spot his gaze fixed on me
"We were just attacked in a location deemed secure and we need to know how" Kizan demanded
"It is clear we have a traitor among us" My father said bored
I hesitated telling them what i only wanted my father to hear, but given the attack that had just occurred, decided they all had to know what i knew
"He is a fae". I murmeed
"What? Did you just say a fae was behind this?" Sinik turned on me with a sneer
"Yes i did." I said meeting his gaze unflinchingly
"Listen..I have another power inherited from my mother. She was a seer. She saw the future as well as the past. When i was in the fae realm my uncle helped me tap into it. I revisited a memory of hers. She thought she witnessed a coup staged against the fae king, but what was really occurring was a plot of Dakkar's. The man i saw in her memory was a fae. One with luminescent eyes. That is all i could see. he was cloaked heavily from view. Today i saw him again. I am certain he is a fae. And if they found us. It stands to reason he is among us"
"There are only too fae among us" Kizan stated shifting his burning gaze to Sinik
Sinik tensed as all eyes fell on him
"It isn't Sin his eyes are red" i said impatiently
"How do we know they cannot alter them" Kizan glared
"That is true he could, but i trust Sinik. I do not believe it is him. Do you doubt my judgment Kizan?"
He remained silent
"I agree it is not Sinik" my father commented
"Then who?" Alanor asked
Silence stretched across the tent. None willing to publicly voice the only other obvious choice
"Nax" Sinik growled
"Yes. His eyes and the aura i sense around him would suggest it but there is no proof" i added
"We should kill him. problem solved" Alanor states expressionless
"Shouldn't we be 100% certain first?"
"We could but in that time he may devise another way to attack"
I nodded recognizing the logic in that
"Lets bring him in and then go from there" My father suggests
All heads nod as they exit the tent
"Ayala, you coming?"
I snapped out of my daze looking at Alanor as he watched me quizzically
"Yeah." I said hurrying to catch up
Searching through the chaos of the attack for Nax proved harder than expected.
In the end only one conclusion remained cementing our suspicions
Nax was gone.....................................................
Nax as been identified as the creepy man from Ayla's Mothers dream
Do you think they should question or kill him?
What do you think of Alanor? and everyone's fear of Ayla?
