Chapter 5
The week had been hectic for Chase. He was busy getting everything organised for his book signings and they had got the approval last week for a fan-based Q&A about the book. So he was getting ready for that. He liked these type of events, but it was always stressful getting ready for them. They had released tickets last week, and it surprised him when they all sold out within the first 2 days. It was now just a matter of organising which left him little time to think about the way Charlie was ignoring his calls and text messages.
He rubbed his hands over his face as he sat behind his desk in his home office. All he wanted to do was talk to her and make sure she was okay, but every time he called it went to voice mail and every text was left unanswered.
To make his life more stressful Angela had arrived home this morning. He had been holed up in his office the moment she had arrived at his place like she lived there. However, that didn't mean he didn't hear her stomping through the house and talking in that high pitch voice that made him cringe.
Sighing, he knew he would not get much more work done, so he went downstairs to the kitchen to make himself something for lunch.
"Hey, babe. About time you came out of the office." He smiled over his shoulder when he saw Angela painting her nails again.
"I've been busy. With the new book out there are book signings and talks that I am presenting so a lot of work to get done." He watched as she waved her hand and stood up. He clenched his teeth already annoyed at her being here and to make matters worse she dismissed anything he did, but god forbid if he didn't have to listen to everything she did and comment on it.
"What's for lunch babe. Remember, I can't eat gluten or red meat at the moment." She sat in the spot Charlie sat almost a week ago and it didn't feel the same. Her blonde hair wasn't the same shade and her roots were too dark from her brown regrowth coming through. Her eyes were a muddy brown and not the vibrant green that had been seared into his memory.
"I was going to make myself a sandwich but if there is something you want, I can make." He turned and opened his fridge taking note that he would have to go food shopping in a few days.
"There should be some gluten-free bread. I will take a chicken breast sandwich please." Chase sighed and looked at the chicken breast he had pulled out for dinner this morning.
"Okay." He started cooking as Angela talked and talked and talked. He tuned her out and nodded and hummed when it was appropriate.
"Can you believe the slander they are posting about me." Chase finally took his gaze away from the pan to see she was holding a magazine and reading an article about herself. She slammed the magazine down and low and behold there was a photo for her making out with a guy in the middle page spread.
He felt his eyes twitch at the lip lock, but also the piles of cocaine that was stacked on the table.
"Leading runway model has found herself in a world of trouble. The young and upcoming model Angela Star from Australia has been caught in a passionate lip-lock with model Daniel Stone surrounded by piles of cocaine. While neither couple has commented on the issue an insider has stated on record that Miss Star and Mr Stone will regularly sleep together and have partaken in illicit drugs. The young model has been dating famous author Chase Sinclair for over a year, but will this be the end of their relationship? And how long has Miss star been stringing Mr Sinclair along for?" She read out loud as he recognised the man in the photo.
