Chapter 16
"I'm going to kill him." Chase clenched his fist and stormed towards the door, full of rage and anger when he felt a hand grab his arm.
"No, don't Chase, please don't go after him. I'm fine." Chase turned around to face Charlie, but all he could see and focus on was the red handprint on her face.
"Fine, fine. He hit you, Charlie, that motherfucker laid his hand on you and you say it's fine." Chase threw his hands up in the arm and started pacing as he tugged at his hair. Fine. How could she say she was fine?
It was like a light bulb went off in his head and he froze and stared at Charlie.
"This isn't the first time is it." He tried to sound calm, but the clipped tone of his voice betrayed the level head he was trying to go for. He watched as Charlie said nothing as she hung her head and started crying.
"That motherfucker." He yelled he threw his fist into the wall, not caring about the throbbing pain in his knuckles, not caring if he broke every bone. Landon Keating was a dead fucking man.
He walked towards the door again as Charlie chased after him.
"Please Chase, don't. Don't go after him, please. He will kill you, please." He turned around and faced her as she grabbed his hand. He stared into her face that showed the first real emotion he had seen from her since her return.
Her eyes were wide with more unshed tears. Her body was shaking, and he could see the fear in her face. Fear that almost had him falling to his knees.
"Please Chase, please don't go after him. Just take me home, please." She pleaded with him as she grabbed his throbbing fist and looked at it. Chase looked at his knuckles in the dark and saw that he had split the skin open, but the pain in his hand was nothing compared to the anger and pain that was inside his chest.
He felt violent; he felt like he needed to kill something or someone that started with an L and ended in an N.
"Please, just take me home Chase." He let out a sigh and closed his eyes, taking a few deep breaths to focus on Charlie's needs rather than his need to murder Landon.
"Okay, okay." He whispered and opened his eyes and gently reached up with his good hand and cupped her face and gently stroked the red mark. He watched as Charlie closed her eyes, and he leant forward and pressed his forehead against hers. They both stood like that for a few seconds before Chase kiss the top of her head and took a step back and pulled out his phone to message the driver and his sister that he was leaving.
Neither of them said anything as they walked out, Chase avoided the crowd and asked a waiter for a bag of ice as they waited. The waiter came back with a bag of ice and Chase escorted Charlie to the limo that was waiting outside.
