Chapter 11

The last week had been busy for Chase that he hardly had any time to talk to Charlie. He had been busy attending book signings in local bookshops while also preparing for the Q&A coming up in the next few days.

While he messaged Charlie when he had a few spare moments he hadn't talked to her and though she said she understood he still felt bad. He was sitting in his office preparing some talking points when he heard his phone ring. He looked at the caller ID and groaned when he saw it was Angela again.

He hadn't heard from her for 5 weeks and he was glad. His house was peaceful again, and he had no intention of ever taking her back. Hitting decline he leaned back in his chair and ran his hands over his face.

He missed Charlie. Even though it had only been a week, he missed her and wondered how he went 5 years without seeing her. Hearing his phone ring again he hit decline and ran a hand along his jaw feeling the stubble knowing he needed to shave again. Looking at his laptop he knew he would not get much more work tonight and knew he needed to go to bed soon because he had another book signing out at Penrith tomorrow.

He closed his laptop and stood up stretching his arms above his head when he heard his doorbell ring. Looking at the clock on the wall he wondered who was visiting him at this time in the afternoon. While it wasn't late, he still was not expecting visitors. Not bothering to put a shirt on he walked down the stairs from his office and opened his front door in nothing but his PJ pants.

"Do you ever wear clothes?" His sister pushed her way into the house, and he rolled his eyes.

"Hi Harriet, please, make yourself at home why don't you." He said sarcastically as he shut the front door and followed his sister into his kitchen.

"Why I will, thank you very much." Rolling his eyes again he saw as his sister opened a bottle of wine and started pouring two glasses.

"Why are you here?" He asked taking the wine and leant on the bench as he watched his sister open his fridge no doubt looking for food.

"Robert had to go away on business and I was bored." He watched as his sister heated some leftovers before taking a seat at his island bench.

"You were bored and thought, lets head over and annoy my brother?" She shrugged her shoulder and Chase rolled his eyes again.

"I wanted to know the gos between you and Charlie. Dad said she spent a few days here." Chase groaned wishing he had never opened the door and had gone to bed.

"Nothing much. She is just a friend." He stated, and it was his turn to watch his sister roll her eye.

"A friend you haven't stopped loving and you sleep with. Great friend you are." Harriet raised a single eyebrow at him, and he shrugged his shoulder.
