A/N-this will probably be updated more often, because there are a LOT of chapters written right now...

Chicago, Illinois

Virgil

Deceit was here. That couldn't be good.

"Get in the helicopter, and strap yourself in. It might be a little bumpy. Also, go to the bathroom now if you need to." Valerie said.

When nobody answered, Thomas said, "Alright everybody. Let's go.

Virgil, Patton, Logan, and Roman climbed into the helicopter. Virgil had never been in one before, and had some difficulty adjusting the seat straps.

Virgil looked around the helicopter, and even if it was cramped, it was still one of the coolest things he'd ever seen.

Virgil prayed no one would sit too close to him, but Patton took the seat uncomfortably close next to him. Roman sat on the other side, next to Logan.

"Aren't you supposed to be sitting next to Patton?" Roman elbowed Logan, grinning.

"Aren't you supposed to be sitting next to Virgil?" Logan said, mocking Roman's tone.

What was Logan talking about- Roman sitting next to him? He and Roman hadn't even talked that much- just some bickering on the plane to Chicago.

"I should have seen that coming." Roman said, shaking his head and smiling. Logan just continued reading his book. It was quiet on the helicopter for a while. Patton sat silently, Virgil sat really still so Patton could be comfortable, Logan was attempting to read, and Roman was on his phone.

Valerie was flying, with Thomas sitting next to her, and Virgil wondered how many vehicles she knew how to fly or drive, mostly to try to take his mind off the impending fight. But it wasn't working. He was fidgety the whole flight. He and everyone else were about to be dropped headfirst into a fight with a guy that could create illusions.

Not to mention that Virgil had never been in a superpowered fight before. His nervousness was beyond measure, his heart beating much faster than was probably, and his palms sweating way too much in his opinion.

He only ever fought normal people that commit normal crimes. Virgil was scared he would hurt someone. He was scared his powers wouldn't work at the time he would need it the most.

Calm down, Virgil. Things won't be that bad...I think. He pinched the inside of his right palm and took a few deep breaths. Then, Valerie spoke up.

"We are approaching. So we all already discussed our abilities, correct?" Valerie said.

"Everyone except Virgil." Roman muttered under his breath.

"We know some things about his powers, but not that much." Logan replied.

"I know this may be a bad time, but is it okay if you guys demonstrated your powers?" Valerie said.

"We are on a helicopter, going to our first fight together and now you want to see our powers?" Virgil growled.

"Well, have you guys seen each other's powers in action?" Valerie asked.

"Yes, Logan took some tests on us and we had to demonstrate our powers for him." Patton said. "He also took notes on our powers."

"That's good enough for me." Valerie said, relieved.

"Well," Logan said, cleaning his glasses on his shirt. "Except Virgil. Virgil, I know you can make objects explode, but how large? How powerful? We need to know at least a little bit."

Virgil realized that he wouldn't be able to get out of this one without answering. "I guess- I mean, I've never done something big, but like, I can make it pretty big."

"Okay, but how big? What is the largest object you have ever caused to detonate?"

Virgil didn't want to tell the truth- he didn't want to tell anyone what he did. He couldn't.

When they were arriving, Virgil was super nervous. His heart was going a mile a minute. He was sweating and couldn't keep his palms dry.

"Hey, it's going to be fine." Patton said while patting Virgil's back.

"How do you know?" Virgil asked rudely. He didn't mean for it to come out so mean, but he was afraid. Afraid what if could mean if they failed- if he failed. He had never fought someone with powers; he had never fought someone who could make him see things that weren't there.

He was afraid what failing could mean for Patton, for Logan, even for Roman. He didn't want anyone to die!

"Look, Patton, I'm sorry. I'm just scared." Virgil sighed.

"Virgil, don't worry. We can do this- we're a team, right?"

"Yeah, I guess. I'm just... scared, I guess. What if everyone else is doing amazing, but I can't even make a pebble blow up?" Virgil whispered. He never told anyone this, but it felt good to just... talk.

"Virgil, I'm scared too. I have a really broad ability that even I don't know the full extent of. But as long as you pretend that this is just another ordinary crime, you should be okay." Patton smiled.

"I'm not okay, I promise." Virgil couldn't resist making that joke.

"What?! What's wrong!?" Patton asked, concerned.

"It's a reference." Virgil told him as tried to hold back his laughter.

"Oh. What's it from?"

"My Chemical Romance. You know, the band?" Virgil said off Patton's confused expression.

"I don't know the band, but I'll listen to them!" Patton said. Virgil smirked, knowing that Patton probably would NOT like Virgil's favorite band.

"I hate my weaknesses, they make me who I am." Virgil said, making another reference.

"It's cool to be okay." Patton said, unknowingly making a reference. Virgil burst out laughing.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" Patton asked, confused.

"No, no. It's just another reference."

Patton and Virgil's conversation was cut short by Valerie saying over the loudspeaker, "We have landed. Everyone, you may want to prepare yourselves."
