TW: Swearing

What was so bad that Thomas had to interrupt Roman and Virgil? Roman had planned to make the end of their date much more romantic than being interrupted by the paranoid leader of a secret government agency!

But the worried look Virgil gave to Roman was enough for Roman to listen to Thomas.

"Have either of you seen Patton or Logan recently?" Thomas asked in a hushed whisper.

"Not since yesterday, when Logan went to apologize to him, and then Logan was just working in his lab since then," Roman answered.

"Oh, no. No, no! This could be really bad."

"You need to tell us what's wrong. Does it have something to do with Logan?" Virgil asked.

"Yes, it has everything to do with Logan. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I don't think Logan is really Logan."

"What do you mean?" Roman said. He saw fear growing in Virgil's eyes.

"He's been acting... strange. Like when you two and Patton were fighting, he didn't even try to stop you guys. He just walked off." Thomas whispered.

"That's not really strange for Logan to be honest, but it is weird that he didn't defend Patton." Roman stopped. He remembered what he and Virgil said to Patton. What he accused him of. "Oh no."

"What?" Thomas asked.

"I'm so stupid! How did I not notice this before?!" Roman scolded himself.

"What is it?" Thomas questioned him.

"I pinned Patton as a spy for Deceit," Roman stated.

"Yeah, so?" Virgil said.

"Remember when Logan asked how much we know about Deceit?" Thomas's eyes widened.

"Go on." Virgil prompted. Roman knew that Virgil understood what he was talking about but he continued anyway.

"What if Logan is Deceit? What if he asked those questions because Deceit wanted to know how much we know about him?" Roman shook, horrified.

"If it's true, where is Logan?" Virgil asked to no one in particular.

"What if he's lost somewhere? What if he's dead-"

"No. I refuse to believe that he's dead in a ditch somewhere." Thomas insisted.

"He might not even be in a ditch. Deceit might already have found him. How else would Deceit know that Logan stormed away?" Virgil pointed out.

"You're right, Virgil. But I could also just be wrong and it could all be in my head. I just really hope Patton is okay. We need to time him. Roman, go see if he's in his room." Thomas said.

"Why me?" Roman complained.

"Because you need to apologize to Patton, anyway. And it will be less worrying than if all of us go." Thomas told Roman.

"Okay, okay. You're right." Roman conceded as he walked down the hall to Patton's room and knocked on the door.

"Hey, Patton? It's Roman. May I come in? I wanted to apologize."

A quiet 'come in' was heard from the other side of the door, and Virgil and Thomas let out a sigh of relief.

Roman opened the door and greeted Patton, who looked like he had just woken up.

"Sorry! I just took a nap, but now I have a huge headache. And it's okay, Roman. I know we were all a little angry and afraid.

Roman cleared his throat. "Well, I'm glad you're not still angry. I still feel bad for falsely accusing you, though. Do you know where Logan is? I didn't see him after he came in here and talked to you."

"What are you talking about?" Patton frowned. "I haven't seen Logan since the argument. He's been working in his lab since then."

Roman's eyes widened. Shit, shit, shit! This could be bad."

"Hey, language!" Patton scolded.

"Thomas? Virgil? I think we need you both to come in here." Roman called.

"I don't see what the problem is. I feel fine, except for the headache, but that's nothing to worry about." Patton said, confused.

"That's not the problem," Thomas interrupted. "The problem is that all of us remember Logan coming in here to talk to you, but you don't. All three of us can't have the same contradictory memory that you have. There's just no way. So something us off here. Patton, tell us everything you remember between the argument and right now."

"Well, I came into the room and..." Patton stopped. "It's all sort of fuzzy. I remembered that I slept but not much before that. I don't know, maybe it's the sleep playing with my head."

"Well, try to remember, please. There's no way that we all remembered Logan coming in but not you." Roman stated.

"I don't know, okay? Maybe you can ask Logan or something. I don't remember him coming in." Patton said as he began to close the door.

"No! We can't tell Logan!" Roman whisper-yelled.

"Why?" Patton asked.

"Well..." Roman began. He glanced at the hallway, looking out for Logan. "Don't tell him I said this but Logan seems a bit odd ever since he came back."

"What do you mean?" Patton tilted his head to one side.

"Well, when we were pegging you as a spy for Deceit," Roman stopped and added, "Sorry for that. He didn't defend you and just left. Also, when he asked us how much we know about Deceit was a little bit suspicious."

"Well, what if he wanted to know what we knew about Deceit so we can make a plan to take him down?" Virgil added in.

"Logan already knows all the stuff we answered. Why would he ask us questions that he knows the answers to?" Thomas explained.

"But what does this have to do with Logan? It's not like he's- wait, that's what you're saying, isn't it? That Logan isn't really himself?" Patton bit his lip as he thought. "If you really think that he's- not Logan, you should ask him something that only Logan would know. Shouldn't that settle it?"

"But what if he gets suspicious and we're right about him not being Logan?" Virgil voiced his concerns.

"Wait! I've got it. I remember Logan said he really liked a certain brand of jelly. What was it- Kraft? No, that's mac and cheese- Oh! Crofters, that's it! Just ask him what kind of jelly he likes, and if he doesn't say Crofters, then you know it's not really him!"

"Wait, you're seriously suggesting that we find out if he's really who he was by asking about his favorite jelly brand!?" Virgil asked in disbelief. "There's no way that would work, or even be reliable."

"It's the only thing we have to work with, so I say we give it a shot." Thomas answered Virgil.

"This was a stupid debate, but I guess it's the only way we can see if it's really Logan without walking up to him and saying, 'Hey, you've been acting weirdly recently, are you Deceit?'" Virgil said. "And what do we do if it's really not Logan? What happens then?"

"Let's hope we can get answers from him if we can. If we can't... try not to get killed." Roman whispered.
