Manhattan, Present day

Roman

Roman hadn't really considered that everyone who knew him would now be swarming him with questions, but that's alright. Even his best friend, Cam, the first person he told when he discovered he had powers, was still asking Roman questions. He didn't mind being popular at all. In fact, he flourished in the spotlight. It was a little annoying that people camped out under his tree in the front lawn, but that was alright, as he was pretty sure the tree didn't mind.

When the crowd died down after he showed off some pyrotechnic marvels, a woman came up to him, and she wasn't fangirling or going crazy, asking for autographs or pictures. Instead, she held out a badge. "Mr. Valent?" She asks.

"Yup, that's me!" Roman beamed.

"I'm going to need you to come with me," she told him. She looked familiar, and Roman swore he had seen her before. He just couldn't remember where.

Suddenly Roman was worried. He had done nothing wrong, and although some people might call him a 'vigilante', he had done nothing but good.

"Excuse me, everyone!"he said to the crowd. "You're all amazing, but could you all please disperse?"

A bit worried, Roman turned to go back in his house, the woman following. Roman felt the burning stares from the people who praised him earlier, and they were surely wondering who he was walking away with. He wanted to shout at the that he did not know this person, and she definitely was not his girlfriend. He tried to pretend that nothing was wrong, but he was being led away by someone who looked like she was from the government.

"Mr. Valent, my name is Valerie Torres-Rosario. You may have some questions right now, but all will be explained shortly. For right now, I would recommend you to pack things you will need."

"Wait a minute, aren't you that news-"

"Yes, but that is not why I am here."

"Can you at least tell me where we are going? I'd hate to leave my fans waiting." He said, with a grin, although he was a bit agitated.

Valerie sighed, and told him, "We are going to Chicago. We have a plane waiting for you right now, Mr. Valent. I would not advise you to keep him waiting." Roman didn't ask any more questions. Roman quickly became curious as to what S.T.A.R stood for. He knew there was the FBI, CIA, and the Department of Homeland Security, but he didn't know S.T.A.R., so it was either top secret, very new, or both.

"So what is it that you need that's so important?" Roman asked, somewhat irritated.

"Mr. Valent, do you know how much trouble you caused for the government, and by extension, yourself, less than twenty four hours ago?" She said, very intimidating for someone who was much shorter than him.

"Er, no, not really. It was more like coming out-"

"Exactly. You have no idea how much this impacted the entire world with those five little words. 'My name is Roman Valent.' I'm here with S.T.A.R., whose sole purpose is to make sure people with superpowers don't cause trouble for those who don't.

Offended, Roman replied, "I haven't caused any trouble! It's that other guy-"

"Yes, the Duke. We know. That's why I'm here. He's not the only one causing trouble, and you're not the only one in the world with powers."

"Well, there's the Algorithm guy, but are there really that many more?" He asked, honestly very surprised. How many people with superpowers could there really be in the world?

"Yes, there are other people like you. They just aren't so... flamboyant. There are also people out there who don't fly under the radar, or try to help people."

Roman finally fell silent, understanding. "You want me to help you? Like, team up? With... these other guys you're talking about?"

"Exactly." Valerie nodded. "Now, if you would please pack some things you may need for at least a few days, and come with me."

"More superhero-ing? That's all you had to say."

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Valent. Now, we have business to attend to."

Roman had been very cooperative, which made Valerie's job infinitely easier, she told him. She had driven him to the airport in an inconspicuous armored van, which had been slightly unpleasant as he couldn't see out the window, but everything was forgiven when they boarded the plane. There was one other person there, hands in his pockets and wearing headphones. His purple dyed hair covered his eyes, but Roman could tell he was staring at him. He was kinda cute, Roman thought. 'My gaydar senses are tingling' Roman said to himself.

"Hi. I'm Roman." He said.

"I know who you are. You literally announced your name on international tv." He replied.

"Well... yeah. Aren't you going to tell me your name, though?" Roman asked, as he really wanted to know the name of the person who he was about to have a gay attack over.

"No."

Roman didn't know what to do, as he was not used to people so bluntly refusing to give their name.

"Um, okay then," Roman replied, all his usual swagger going out the window. "Do you mind if I sit here?" He asked, pointing to the seat across the man in the hoodie.

"Free country," was all he said.

Roman sat down across him, which he would have done anyway even if the incredibly handsome man across him said the he minded.

The speakers crackled on through the cabin, and Valerie's voice spoke, "please buckle your seatbelts, sit down, and maybe socialize a bit because it would do both of you good to get to know each other."

The plane engines rumbled, taxying across the runway until they were up in the air.

"Nice view, right?" Roman asked, trying to make conversation with the person whom he just met but desperately wanted to get a coffee with. Or maybe he liked tea. Roman has no idea what the person across from him liked, because he had spoken less than twenty words to him. But Roman was determined to have at least one coffee with him.
