Kevin violently threw the file he had been merely staring at. He stood up and occupied his favourite space in his office -- where he could see the view. With his hands in his pockets he mindlessly stared at the city at its peak hours. He couldn't believe that in less than a couple of weeks he'll be watching the city from a different angle, in a different office, with a different job description.

"Kevin.." Kevin snapped his head to find his half sister at the door, pleading to come in with her eyes.

"Sammy. What are you doing here?" Samantha carefully walked in and closed the door before sitting in the chair opposite her brother, Kevin doing the same simultaneously.

"I just wanted to check up on you after that..." Samantha couldn't even say it. She knew Kevin's ego was bruised and his feelings hurt with the decision their parents took. "I know how much you've dedicated yourself to this company."

Kevin scoffed and looked towards the view again. "I can't believe they would sideline me for AJ after all that I've done for this place. He doesn't even have half the experience I have!"

"I get that you're upset Kev and I'm sorry. Perhaps you just need to talk to them."

"Can we change the subject? How's my nephew doing?" Kevin said in a happier tone as his eyes shifted to Samantha's tummy.

"I can't wait till he gets out so I can have my body back." They both chuckled lightly. Kevin's smile gradually disappeared as he watched his sister rub her stomach tenderly.

"I hate what they did to you." Samantha looked up at him with a worried expression but quickly covered it with a slight smile and shrugged.

"Well someone had to do it since you so blatantly refused."

"Of course! I wasn't gonna let them control me. And who was I gonna marry? AJ's sister? She's barely out of high school!" Kevin distastefully said causing a light laugh to escape his sister.

"If you did let them control you maybe you would be CEO right now." Kevin couldn't help but feel she's right. How else could he explain being sidelined for a retired sportsman with no experience in the corporate world. While he, on the other hand, has been  improving the company's figures year after year.

But there was another explanation. One he didn't want to believe. He was sidelined because he wasn't really family. Kevin grew up not knowing his father. He was a bright kid with an average upbringing. So when Mr Walters found out about him he thought making him CEO would fix things. Even though he knew nothing about business, he was a natural leader who he knew a lot about cars thanks to his educational background. And that was all he needed to make the company one of the best car brands in the country.

"It's a family company" -- that's what his father said when he offered him the position, but Kevin knew it was too soon to start calling himself family. He felt like an outsider and being asked to step down by his own father for another man's child really ruined their short, fragile relationship.

"Kevin..." She broke him out of his trance and he looked at her. " I'm sorry I won't bring up the CEO thing again."

"You should be happy. He's your husband."

"And you're my brother."

"You've known him longer than you've known me." Kevin curtly said and shrugged.

"I'm not that shallow Kev. Blood comes first okay." Samantha sighed before continuing. "Plus at the rate things are going I doubt we'll even get married." Kevin raised his brow.

"Trouble in paradise? What did he do?"

"I don't even know what's going on. He's just so detached and he's hardly around. It's like he doesn't even care."
