So I had finally given in to Steven's nagging about me attending some self defence classes. Every conversation we had somehow shifted to this topic. He ended up challenging me to a game of rock, paper, scissors: Whoever wins gets their way, and I made the grave mistake of agreeing. A day later here I am on my way to classes he searched and signed up for on my behalf. He even let me borrow his car so I'd have no excuse not to go.

While waiting for the lights to turn green I briefly looked around the car in search of my wallet which I had mindlessly tossed somewhere in the back seat. But it wasn't there...strange. It must have fallen on the floor. I glance at the lights once again; Still red. That gives me the chance to quickly twist my upper body to scan the floor of the car. I see the black car in front of me move in my peripheral vision so I assumed the lights were finally green. I let go of the breaks, my eyes still searching for my wallet. That's when I heard a crash.

"What's your problem! Move!" I rant, but not loud enough for the other driver to hear me. Something tells me to look at the lights again and to my horror -- they were still red. The driver got out of his car to assess the damage. I quickly summoned up some courage and got out of mine.

"I am so so sorry. I thought the lights were--" I Immediately stopped when I saw who it is. And at that moment I just wanted the ground to come alive and swallow me up.

So he caught me not doing my job at the event, and then I sent the pictures only after the deadline (and according to Lisa he doesn't appreciate incompetence) and now I had damaged his seemingly expensive car? Yep, I was definitely in his bad books. I watched his previously hard face contort into one of realisation. I held a breath, expecting him to explode. I shouldn't have hinted that I know him. I should've just continued with my pathetic apology...

"Parker right?" He snapped his fingers and pointed at me upon remembering my name, not minding the dent I caused anymore. I sighed in relief. I don't know if it was the casual clothes he's wearing or if it's the fact that he's not in a work setting but he seemed more approachable, more like an ordinary human being and not the work machine I met and the one Lisa described him to be.

I simply nodded. "I'm sorry again for that."

"It's nothing I can't drive with."

"I'll pay for the repairs... I just can't find my wallet right now, which was why I crashed into your car in the first place..." I could see him stifle a smile at my flustered state causing my rushed words to trail off in embarrassment. A hooting frenzy behind us began, stealing our attention... Guess we're blocking the way.

"Well," I looked back at him. "You know where to find me." He went back into his car and drove off and I did the same.

Work was becoming depressing lately so I decided to take a day off and visit my mother at work. She always knew how to make me feel better although our conversations would make you wonder which one's the parent and whose the child.

"You know I think it's time I went to his fancy house and knock some sense into your father's thick head. What kind of nepotism is this?! You deserve that p--"

"Mom... Your students are waiting for you." I cut her off, aware that she could go on all day. She looked behind her to find expectant eyes, her students already awaiting the next instruction. Her mood went to a 100 as soon as she went back.

She really loved what she did and she didn't just teach these people self-defense, she motivates them and makes them find their inner confidence. After she got out of an abusive relationship with my step father she decided to start this initiative to help other people. I smiled slightly when I thought about how she was back then and how she's really improved now, confidence wise. I was proud of her. She did good.
