Honeymoon
Bali is beautiful.
I sipped my Mango Spritz while lounging on one of the beach chairs, admiring the rolling waves of the blue ocean. The sand is so white and the scene is picturesque. I am a son of the great Don Khemkhaeng, one of the most powerful mafiosos in Thailand. But I've never set foot outside my village. Father was afraid to let me go anywhere alone or escorted. Now that I am a married man, I have my freedom. And I never thought married life would be this much fun. I didn't know what I was fretting all this time.
The sun is at the summit of the sky, letting me know that it's time for lunch. Placing my empty glass on the round picnic table, I stood up. Simultaneously, Pran and Max got to their feet. They are my newly appointed bodyguards. P'Tae allocated them just for me. I'm allowed to go anywhere in Bali as long as they accompanied me.
The luxury beach villa is magnificent. It has two stories and five rooms. P'Tae and I took up the upstairs while the five guards shared the three rooms on the ground floor. That's the life of Mafia. It's direly vital to take bodyguards with you even to the honeymoon.
"Thanks, guys!" I waved at Pran and Max, trotting upstairs.
P'Tae is nowhere to be seen. Probably still stuck in a conference call with someone or something related to work. I feel bad that he doesn't get to enjoy our honeymoon as much as me. I peeked at the half-opened door of his room. He's clicking furiously on his laptop, sitting cross-legged on the bed.
Yeah, we sleep in separate rooms. On the first day we got here, P'Tae allowed me to sleep in the large master bedroom alone while he took up the spare one. I can't complain though, because I'm used to being alone and I always slept better on my own.
My fears regarding intimacy had completely vanished by now. P'Tae is a good person. Besides, I have forgotten some important facts about marriage ethics practiced amongst mafiosos.
A union is not always about a matter of love, romance, and intimacy for us. It's almost always a business deal, convergence of two businesses and dynasties. They are mostly political decisions made by the heads of respective families. In such unions, the couples are not required to be intimate with each other, if they don't share romantic feelings. Especially, if the couple is same-sex, the consummation of the union is not obligatory. I could think of many such instances. Most of them kept lovers on the side. As long as such things kept quiet, nobody criticized.
I'm not saying I want to take up a lover or anything. Just feels silly why I was worried sick before the marriage. I should have known. At least I should have voiced my worries to P'Paris or P'Kim. They would have enlightened me and put my heart at ease.
I shook my head, laughing at my own idiocy.
I opened the large master bedroom. I need a shower before going out to find some new place to have lunch at. I like exploring new tastes.
