It's the end of a long week.
Ever since we got back from Bali, I would wake up alone in the bed every morning. P'Tae would leave before the daybreak and I almost never see him leave. Apparently, Bangkok's traffic is awful. To avoid getting stuck for hours in the endless sea of vehicles, it's better to leave early. P'Tae told me that he would wake up at the first light, make himself a protein shake, work-out for about half an hour before showering, and getting dressed for work.
Sometimes he would send me short messages from work, asking about my day. I, of course, have nothing to complain about. Mae Vanida would take up most of my time and I spend half of the day experimenting with food. I think I found my third calling. I love music, I like to play video games and my newly found passion is preparing food. Mae and Jae would laugh at my enthusiasm, shaking their heads. The maids stood by the side awkwardly when I butted in and did their work. I found it very entertaining, mixing various things to ultimately make something delicious.
When the girls come back from school, I become their hostage. Dara would have so many things to tell me, about her friends and silly things that happened during the day. I eagerly listen because I've never experienced school life. I've only seen them on TV. I play with Brea till P'Tae gets back from office.
He would have a couple of shots of whisky and watch some TV, occasionally relating something or other to me. At the dinner, he would get gently scolded by mom for a number of things. For not eating properly, for working too hard, for leaving me alone, no matter how many times I've insisted that I don't mind. P'Tae would smile softly and dismiss his mom's words good-naturedly.
At night he would work more in the office room. I seldom catch him coming to bed.
That's why it surprised me when one morning I woke up to find him sleeping next to me. I frowned and took my phone to check the time. It's passed seven and P'Tae is still sleeping? Did he miss his alarm?
Then I realized that it's Saturday. Maybe he didn't work during the weekend.
I lay back on the bed and tossed the phone aside. He had one arm thrown above his head and the other resting over his stomach. His tanned forearm strong with bluish veins running up and down looked dark against the crisp white duvet over us.
My eyes shifted to his face. He had dark circles under his eyes, probably from sleep deprivation. Again I felt worried that he's working too hard. I'm not going to pester him to stop tiring himself with work though. I don't want to end up like a nagging wife, literally.
