"Did you pack everything...? Warm clothes...scarves? Enough socks?"
I smiled into the phone.
"Jae Kulap is taking care of everything Phi... Besides this is not the first time I've traveled abroad."
"I know, sweetheart..."
P'Paris sighed. He cares for me so much, like I'm his own son. It hadn't changed over time, even after I got married. He's such a beautiful soul. My brother is lucky to have him.
"But this is only your second time traveling and Russia is different than Indonesia." I can almost imagine his marble white brow furrowing, thinking hard. "...So I've been told."
"Russia is like a second home to P'Tae." I placated him. "He will take care of me."
"That's also true...,"
I heard him breathe out softly at the other end letting me know he's satisfied with my reasoning.
"How is everyone?" I asked leaning back on the white wrought iron chair I was sitting on. The terrace adjoining our room is cool since it's the late afternoon. Jae Kulap is inside packing the stuff I've laid out for me, as well as for P'Tae. We will be flying to Russia tonight.
P'Tae wasn't exaggerating when he mentioned that night at the boat that he would be busy until the launch.
I hardly saw him or Jazz the few weeks that passed by. It's already mid-November, half a month from my nineteenth birth and we are flying to Russia in a few hours. To say I'm overwhelmed is an understatement. So P'Paris's call was a welcoming, a well-needed distraction. His kind voice always managed to soothe me, ground me.
"Your brother is busy as usual since he's shouldering most of the business now and Bas is doing well both in studies and training. You should see his determination to be the best in whatever he does. It's admirable and also cute at the same time."
He chuckled and I couldn't help laughing with him.
"I miss you," I heard myself saying. "Miss all of you."
All the members of the Kreepolrerk house love me like I'm one of their own. I've no doubts about that. They didn't let me feel inadequate or sad. But sometimes it's inevitable that I missed my old life.
"Aw... sweetheart..."
He sighed.
"We miss you too... so dearly. It's been more than seven months since the wedding. I wish I could come and see you but you know how Kamnan is. He's afraid to let me leave anywhere alone. As if Bangkok is so far away."
I can almost imagine his long-suffering expression but I know P'Paris enjoyed how overbearing my brother is.
"...Is it possible for you to visit us at Christmas? It's much better if you can come up here for your birthday."
