The family greeted the newlyweds at the dining room table with smiles that had hidden meanings but husband and wife were clueless because there was nothing to smile about, in that way.

"We hope you slept well?" her father-in-law spoke to her on behalf of the others and Diya nodded.

"Jee, Alhumdulillah... I did sleep well, so well that I even fell off to sleep as I was napping after Fajr salaah." she giggled and the others laughed too.

"There's nobody here as yet so you don't need to wear your niqaab while we have our breakfast, unless you're more comfortable with it on." her mother-in-law smiled at her.

"No, I will be fine with it off, I just thought that there would be other men around so I put it on." with that out of the way, she removed her niqaab and it was the first time her father-in-law saw her face. Ma-sha-Allah choice by Mikaeel, he thought in his mind before he went back to reading his newspaper.

The morning was relaxed and Diya found herself loving her new family as much as she loved her own and she silently thanked Allah for always blessing her with the best.

"Di... Oops, is it okay if I call you Di?" Yaseera blushed in embarrassment later when they were in the lounge.

"It's perfectly okay, don't stress." Diya assured her just as Mikaeel came into view.

Avoiding his gaze was difficult to do because he took the seat directly across from where she sat on the lounge floor but Diya managed to ignore him while she tried to help his sisters choose the right cosmetic jewellery for their outfits that they were wearing that evening.

Radiya, who smiled from time to time didn't realize that her brother was watching her skeptically. He knew that something was bothering her but he had no idea what it could be because she was very reserved and quiet compared to Yaseera.

"Radiya, this will look good with your green and blue sequins, it's simple and beautiful." Diya smiled hopefully at her very quiet sister-in-law, and was relieved when her Radiya agreed with her because she gave up trying to find the right thing for her other sister-in-law Yaseera, who she found had a mind of her own.

"Diya, you can also choose whatever you like... These are also for you to choose from." Mikaeel's mother spoke from the couch she sat on.

Mikaeel's attention turned back to his wife and he felt the worry and tension from his shoulders ease. She fit in so well with his family and her timidness just calmed him down without her even trying. It was an unsettling feeling but he ignored it for the time being.

Diya felt his gaze on her before she looked his way and found herself drowning in his eyes just as a male's voice in the passage broke the moment, forcing her to look away and put on her niqaab.

Gafoor entered the room to find his best-friend on the couch and the three women seated around the coffee table which sat at the center of the lounge. His first thought was that it was so strange to see that a newly married couple was sitting with everyone else the day after their wedding. His second thought was that his friend deserved a kick for not being sensitive to his wife's feelings and wants.

With greetings done, Gafoor sat beside his friend, trying to ignore the way Radiya hastily excused herself when she saw him enter.

"Mikaeel! You were supposed to be romancing Diya bhabhi, not boring her to death so soon after marriage." Gafoor half joked.

Mikaeel heard the sarcasm in the tone of voice but decided to let it slide.

"Just tell him, he's a waste of time fella!" Mikaeel's father decided to speak his mind.

"Aah don't worry, I'm alright here..." Diya assured both men but they were adamant on making Mikaeel feel lousy as they went on about it.

"Gafoor, why don't you come here and help us choose jewellery for tonight?" Yaseera called out laughingly.

"Sure thing." he was already walking towards them as he spoke.

Diya didn't know Gafoor well enough to make small talk with him yet so she let Yaseera babble away as they placed their outfits on the table for him to see.

"Won't you be wearing the wedding jewellery tonight?" Gafoor asked Diya as he placed a silver chain on her pink satin dress.

"Um, I was thinking of wearing it but it's a bit too much with the working on this outfit. What do you think?" Diya asked softly, not knowing why it was her husband's best-friend who was the one taking an interest in what she was going to wear.

Gafoor thought deeply for a moment before agreeing with her.

"You're right. Something simple will do..."

The words were just spoken and Mikaeel joined them, taking his place beside his wife. Diya, who had no idea she was holding her breath in suddenly let out a sigh of relief.

"You don't need to wear the cosmetic jewellery at all. The outfit is shiny enough." Mikaeel smiled, his closeness making Diya's heart rate increase.

"Hmm, you like it simple, right?" her eyes were shining with mischief.

"You know I do." Mikaeel winked.

"And I like it unruly and untidy." she ruffled his hair out of its neatness, making him grab her hand in the process.

Time stood still. Everything and everybody slowly disappeared into nothingness and for a moment it was just them...

Mikaeel didn't know how to break the 'spell' his wife was holding him in. She was fully covered yet the vulnerability in her eyes was naked.

Gafoor, who watched them from the corner of his eye, smiled with satisfaction. Now that was what he was talking about... Newly wedded couples needed a bit of that kind of moments.

Excusing himself, he made his way around the house to look for the one who captivated his attention in that way. He had some apologizing to do.

Where was she?
