Their Compatibility :
Fourteen: A month later
Diya stretched on the massive bed and let her hand slide to the place her husband had occupied earlier and let out a content sigh.
The little time that they were back home was yet another milestone in they marriage as Mikaeel proved to be the most loving and devoted husband any woman could dream of.
Just as she opened her eyes, Mikaeel appeared with a heart warming smile that made Diya's toes curl under the cotton duvet.
"As-salaamu-alaikum and good morning..." she greeted with her 'morning voice' making Mikaeel's smile widen as he sat on the edge of the bed beside her before greeting her back.
"Wa-alaikum-salaam and good morning to you too sweetheart. Don't you remember what day it is?'
Diya frowned prettily as she tried to recall the day and jumped up in a rush.
"OMA! Monday! The day you go back to work! Why didn't you remind me? Why did you not get me up earlier?" her endless questions as she pulled the covers neatly, wore her slipper and tied her hair in an untidy bun intrigued Mikaeel to no end. There was no one like her, he thought.
"Relax! It's only 6.30am...and I don't need to be in the office until 8. We have enough time to have our breakfast and sort out my lunch. You can shower and then meet me at the kitchen?" he lifted his brow in question.
Diya learned that mornings in her in-law's home was a time for the parents and children to communicate and catch up on anything that may interest the next person.
"Be right with you..." she smiled.
Mikaeel walked out of the room and stood outside the door for what seemed like eternity. He somehow felt odd going to the kitchen without his wife because it was as though he had gotten attached to her in a short while. How he was going to survive the day without her by his side made his head ache, but then he shook himself out of the new mood that he was in and replaced it with the one of his past... He needed to distance himself, he thought to himself as he finally walked toward where he could hear his sister's arguing a point.
That's more like it! Finally a morning of reality after all the 'fairytale days'.
Diya rushed in and out of the bathroom, dressed in her kaftan and made her way toward the kitchen. All eyes were on her when she entered and she felt uncomfortable because nobody said anything until she greeted them with salaam after making sure that there was no one eating.
With her greeting returned, Diya went straight to making herself comfortable beside her mother-in-law at the stove and conversation resumed between the others.
'What do you think of this Diya Bhabhi, you are intelligent, you are computer literate... Daddy says you should work beside brother bear at the office but Mikaeel thinks not... He says it's not healthy for the relationship. Do you agree?' Yaseera rolled her eyes as she spoke.
Diya smiled at her sister-in-law before looking toward her husband.
'If your brother thinks that way then I would assume that it is for the best, besides I was thinking of joining an admin team in a different company really soon...' Diya's news made Mikaeel frown the slightest before he schooled his features.
'I think that is good news, a woman should be independent in today's day and age and I should think that working separately with be good as well.' Mikaeel's father smiled, unaware that his son did not share his sentiment.
Diya felt at ease, knowing that her father-in-law was on her side... And that her sister-in-law looked excited at the idea of her working. But her husband's brooding look made her queasy.
'Different company? Where?' Mikaeel asked with a lift of his brow.
'I don't know yet, I was hoping you would help me check around." Diya looked at him expectantly.
Mikaeel nodded, deep in thought, before looking at her directly in the eye and saying :
'You will work with me as Daddy suggested. I hope that will not disappoint you?'
Diya looked confused just a fraction before she smiled and consented.
'Anything that would make you happy.'
Everybody was silent.
