Sixteen:

You know when things just doesn't go according to plan...? Hmm it was that type of morning for Diya because what was supposed to be an exciting job hunting, - cv sending morning... turned out to be the most shocking morning.

A virus had taken over the world out of the blue. The news itself was vague but the impact of it was making headlines. Lock down in countries were the talk of the day and death tolls rising.

"What is going on in the world?" Diya was scrolling to her news feeds while Mikaeel sipped on his coffee.

"What do you mean?" Mikaeel strolled to her side and looked over her shoulder, his interest spiking with each new headline topic.

"That's something serious especially since there's so many cases in our Country already. I thought it was just on the other side of the world. Hopefully it won't be such a big deal here on our end..." Mikaeel sounded unsure about that and it made a shiver run down Diya's spine.

Diya sat at her desk in the room that morning trying to enjoy finding a good job but her screen filled up with more news on the virus that was spreading like wild flowers. Death rates across the globe caught her attention, the dos and don'ts during a lock down flashed before her, hospitals filled with patients that were gasping for air made her cringe... The news was more important to her right then because she felt like the world needed aid.

Mikaeel, who was unaware that his wife was caught up in the media world, sent out a few of her CVS to companies he trusted. But, he was also worried about the news that was now talk of the town... The virus! So he googled more about it and was shocked to find that there was a talk of a lock down in their country as well, in fact the President himself was going to be addressing the nation later that evening..

After work, Mikaeel rushed home to find his wife sitting at her computer, typing away and smiled... It was a tired kind of smile because he felt exhausted.

"Still at it?" he spoke quietly so that he wouldn't scare her.

"Wa-alaikum salaam to you too!" she turned around and that's when he saw the strained smile on her lips.

"Hey, is everything okay?" he asked, still not making a move to hold her.

Diya nodded, but she looked over at her screen and then she shook her head.

"I'm scared." was all she said before she stood up and ran to hug her husband.

Mikaeel was trying to figure out just what she was saying, but his mind was a blank. He put his arms around her and tried to comfort her, but Diya was now in tears.

"Shh, calm down." he whispered against her hijaab until she finally took a deep breath in and closed her eyes.

With his arms still around her, Mikaeel walked over to the laptop and scanned the content on the screen before clicking the machine off.

"Want to talk about it?" he swallowed nervously.
Diya looked up into his eyes and her fear was evident for him to see.

"This thing is for real, isn't it? It's finding its way around, isn't it?"

Mikaeel could only nod his reply.

"Lock down in our country? How is that going to work/help?" Diya choked out.

"Let's sit down okay? I will tell you what I think about this... This virus that's a threat to the world right now." Mikaeel finally found his voice.

When they were relaxed on their bed, Mikaeel told Diya all that he heard and all that he knew about the virus, making sure he added some positivity to the negative topic.

"Tonight we will know where we stand and what we need to do... I too am scared and worried but we cannot let that come in the way of our daily living. We need to be cautious and do things in accordance to the health department if we want to get through this... At the end of the day, we have to believe..."

"... that Allah is the best of Planners." Diya completed for him.

With a kiss to her forehead, Mikaeel hugged her a little bit tighter and reveled in the comfort of his wife's warmth.

Now to wait on the decision the President had come to... It was a nervous wait but the time was indeed coming closer...

Lockdown or not? That was the big question.
CVS, jobs, business and anything else were the last things on their minds that evening as they say down to a silence filled supper.
