21 day lock down! That was news enough for the entire country as it was the first time that such a drastic decision was taken in a long while.

Diya turned to check her husband’s reaction and was not surprised to see the worry etched on his face. One difficult decision made by the President could save a thousand people from the deadly virus, but it was also a strain on the community at large.

“So much to do, so less time.” Mikaeel breathed out.

“I will be by your side through this confusing time.” Diya smiled encouragingly and it somehow lifted the weight off her husband’s shoulder.

The next three days was as hectic as could possibly be, with Mikaeel getting his work in order as well as seeing to the needs of the people that mattered the most to him. Running from pillar to post, he tried to hide his fear of having himself and his wife contracting the virus but he failed. Diya was too in tune to her husband’s moods so she kept reassuring him that whatever they were doing was for a good cause so Allah will see to it that they were safe.

It was on the eve of the lock down that things got tricky… Mikaeel realized that he never took the time to think of where his wife would want to be during the lock down. Of course he had taken her to her family before that night, but he quite forgot to let her decide on her own where she wanted to be, he just took it for granted that she was happy where she was.

“Did you want to stay with your family for the 21 days?” He asked now as they made their way to their home.

Diya turned his way with a small smile and nodded.

“But will you let me decide where we will stay for this testing time?” She asked quietly. Mikaeel knew that it was a tough decision but he nodded himself.

“Tell me…” He spoke without looking at her.

Diya put her hands on his and said that she would love to be with her family so Mikaeel let that sink in before consenting to her decision.

When they reached home, Mikaeel started preps to pack up and leave his comfort zone for 21 days when Diya laughed up at him.

“Heyyy…” She cooed up at him. “You are my family. I want to stay with you wherever you are.”

Mikaeel looked confused as he began talking. “But…I thought…” He trailed off when Diya rolled her eyes.

When Diya explained that she really wanted to stay wherever he was and that she knew how difficult it was for him to work away from home, Mikaeel couldn’t believe his ears. Any girl would’ve chosen her childhood home over her marital one when things looked so bleak, but here she was, his very own angel who wanted to make his life easy. Oh, did he really deserve her? He wondered.

“You do know that it is going to be a rather long while of being alone together… Are you positive about the arrangement?” Mikaeel asked again to give her a chance to change her mind.

Again, Diya rolled her eyes expressively before telling him that she had given herself in Nikah to him so that she could be with him till death did them apart.

Death, the number one fear that Diya had since the time she learned about the virus. But she always believed that there was always an excuse for death…and so if it was the virus, she had no control over it and death is promised and it was going to catch up if not today then definitely tomorrow.

At midnight when the lock down began, Diya couldn’t help but wonder if she would ever get to see her family members again. But again she comforted herself with ‘Allah is the best of Planners and He would not give anyone more that they could bear.’

The night seemed like any other, but the virus threatened the peace within the minds of millions including Diya and Mikaeels’.
