The musjid was full at Fajr salaah but Mikaeel couldn't hide from his best-friend. Gafoor slapped him on the back with an impish grin playing on his lips, making Mikaeel roll his eyes dramatically.
"So... Tell me...how well did you sleep last night?" Gafoor whispered.
"I slept like a log!" Mikaeel replied before throwing the same question back at him.
"Yeah right! I'm sure you slept like a log! I slept alright... How's the wifey?" the sarcastic tone could not be missed.
"She's okay I guess, talks a lot but I don't think that's going to be a problem. As long as she doesn't expect too much, things should sail smoothly."
His words just left his mouth and Gafoor punched him hard on the arm.
"Ouch! What was that for?" Mikaeel rubbed the spot that throbbed.
"That was for being so stupid! What do you mean she should 'not expect much'? You are her husband man! Obviously she's going to expect much from you! Who else do you expect her to expect much from?!"
Gafoor never ever got so mad so quickly so Mikaeel was surprised by the sudden change in him.
"Hey man, cool down... Why does it bother you so much?" Mikaeel asked with a thoughtful frown.
Gafoor shrugged his hand away and walked off in the opposite direction without a word, his mood undoubtedly dark.
Mikaeel drove homeward, his mind preoccupied with his friend's strange behavior, but he didn't have time to dwell on it because as soon as he stepped into the home he grew up in, he was surrounded by his family members and their happy chatter.
"It's 5.30am not 8am, why is everybody so hyped? I thought I would catch a nap before the day begins." Mikaeel complained tiredly.
"Nap? You can't nap, there's so much still to be done. We need you to help us decorate the bouquet for the main table, we need you to run some early morning errands and we need you to make sure that the caterers are on time..." Yaseera tapped her fingers on her lips, trying to think what she left out.
"I'm supposed to be doing that? And...when did all of that become my headache?" Mikaeel raised a brow.
"It's actually supposed to be seen to by me, but I've got appointments to go to, hair, makeup, dress up... I didn't know it would take me from the morning to get ready for your walimah...so, you're the only other person that can handle the stuff around here without blotching things up." Yaseera smiled sweetly at him just as his younger sister appeared.
"Hey Radz, everything is sorted, you don't need to worry about the caterers and stuff, Mikaeel agreed to see to it." Yaseera spoke quickly.
"You... You are going to see to a hundred things on your own Walimah day? By the way, what are you even doing sitting here, Diya bhabie must be waiting for your return." Radiya was already pulling him up into a standing position and ushering him toward his room.
"Just don't stress about whatever Yaseera told you that you need to do, I will sort it out... I'm not so keen on the 'dolling up' for tonight anyway." she smiled prettily.
"Is everything okay with you?" Mikaeel questioned softly.
"All is well, it's just that I had a fall out with somebody a few moments ago... But it will be okay, I promise." she motioned for him to go into his room and he did rather distractedly.
Diya was standing at the floor to ceiling window, dressed in a black robe that had 'Hers' embroidered on the back. Mikaeel merely glanced her way before removing his topi and placed it on the dresser.
"Oh, you're back?" Diya smiled.
"Hmm, sorry I took so long out there, you know the family..." he trailed off when Diya placed a finger on his lips.
"Don't apologize for spending time with your family, they too have a right over you, you know. I'm new to your life, they were always there, so... Don't ever forget that. Now, do you want to rest awhile or does your day begin straight after Fajr salaah?" she was already walking away from him and Mikaeel had no idea if he had just imagined her closeness a moment before.
"I... Um, what do you normally do?" he decided to give her a chance at doing something she liked.
Diya turned around in surprise, she was definitely not counting on him to say that.
"Me? I... I normally rest for a little while after Fajr then dress for the day, but if you do things differently, do tell me." she looked at him expectantly.
Mikaeel told her that he normally started his day straight after Fajr salaah but he was also thinking of taking a nap before facing the long day ahead.
"That sounds good. Maybe a nap will be the best option since I won't get to take my afternoon nap later today." Diya sighed in disappointment as she walked to the side of the bed.
"You nap in the day? Every day?" Mikaeel seemed amused at the idea as he made his way to his side of the bed.
"Oh yes for sure! I love my sleep any part of the day, it's just sooo good." she cooed when they were both comfortable in their places.
Mikaeel chuckled before closing his eyes...
"Let's take that nap then." he mumbled out and Diya agreed, closing her own eyes and going to a world she loved... Her dream world.
