Summer
Parker has 2 brothers. Kaden is 11, and Luke is 2 (a little older then Mckayla.) Today we took them and Mckayla to the park. My brothers were at a friend's house playing some baseball, and Kenedy and Lindsey were with mom, getting their nails done. I was supposed to go, but I hadn't been out with Parker in almost a week. Mom seemed irritated that I ditched her last minute for my boyfriend, but Parker and I had had this planned before mom and the girls had. So, Parker, it was.
I called right after mom and they left, and I answered it.
"Hey, Ri," He says.
"Hi," I reply.
"What are you up to?", He asks urgently.
"I'm babysitting," I say heartily.
I laugh, "So am I".
"You are?", I ask, surprised.
"Yeah, for Kaden and Luke," He says, dryly, "You?"
"Mckayla and the boys", I say.
"Oh. You wanna eat over?"
"Hang out now, and tonight?", I smile.
"Yeah," He says, "Mom said we could rent a movie tonight, instead of going to the theater."
"Okay," I say, "Nothing good's playing anyways."
"Yeah" - "So, see you in a few?"
"Yeah, see you. Meet us at the park, love."
"I miss you."
"I miss you more."
"I miss you most."
We hung up laughing.
"Riley!", My brothers screamed, as they screeched up the stairs, and down the halls.
"What?", I say, putting a finger to my lip.
"Than?" Jaden asks.
"Mckayla's sleeping."
"No, she's not," He says, "She's in her bouncer. I put her it in like 20 minutes ago."
"You weren't even here 20 minutes ago."
"Uhh-huh."
"Okay, I'm sorry, but did you need anything other then a reaction?"
"A reaction to what?"
"Your annoyance."
Jaden stuck his tongue out at me.
"All we wanted," Noah says grimly, "Is to know if we can go to Danny's and play some baseball."
"Sure," I say, "If it's alright with his mom."
"It is", Noah grumbled, "we'll be back before mom comes home".
"Stay together," I say, "And be respectful. And don't be late. I'm meeting-".
"Parker ?!", They cry in a singsong voice.
"Yes", I roll my eyes, "And I'm bringing Ken, so if you come back early and I'm not here, go to the park".
"Ok," Jaden says.
"Yep," Noah says.
"Okay, have fun", I say, smiling.
"Ok," they say in unison, "We will."
They call goodbye as they race back downstairs. I can hear them rumbling around in the garage for their mits and bats, and then the slam of the front door.
I dig Mckayla's stroller out of the garage and then pull her out of her jumper.
"You wanna go play?", I ask her.
She squeals, and that's when I catch a whiff of her dirty diaper.
"Okay, then", I smile, "Let's just get you changed, gorgeous".
