Please come home soon. It's not the same without you - N' Sync - The Only Gift
"What do you mean my flight is cancelled?" Momo spoke to the airline attendant. Momo was supposed to fly back from Japan to Korea and spend the holiday with her boyfriend of six months, Yohan.
"I'm sorry but the weather is starting to get bad. All planes are grounded until the weather is clear. We will get you on the next flight to Korea, once we get the play," the attendant said to her, as Momo sighed. She knew she couldn't win.
"Thank you," she said, as she moved away and sat in a chair. It was Christmas' Eve and she is now stuck in the airport. She looked out the window to see the snow was coming in and it was picking up to be a blizzard. She can't call her parents to come get her. She isn't going to put their lives at risk. Momo wanted to cry, but she knows what is the point. Now she wasn't going to be home in time for Christmas. How was she going to tell her boyfriend the news?
"You seem down," said a person, as she looked to see an elderly man sitting next to her. "Something on your mind?"
"Yeah, was going to spend my first Christmas with my boyfriend but now..." looking at the blizzard, "it's going to be a late Christmas."
"Aw young love," he replied. "I remember my first Christmas with my wife. It was magical and something to remember."
"We had everything planned out, but now it's ruined." The elderly man laughed, as she looked puzzled.
"It doesn't have to be like that. You can still have Christmas with him. Technology makes things happen a lot." Momo thought about it and nodded.
"I think I understand what you are telling me. I just feel terrible it is going to have to be by phone." The elderly man pat her on the shoulder and gave her a smile.
"It's still better than no contact at all."
.....
After speaking with the man for a few more minutes, he left to go to his wife. Momo sat down in the corner of the airport lobby and slowly dial his number. Two rings he answered the phone."Good morning Momoring," he greeted her, as she couldn't help but giggle. "Are you on the way to Korea. I can't wait to see you when I pick you up."
"Yohan, has you check the weather?"
"No, I woke up and finish taking a shower." Momo sighed, as the snow kept coming down at the airport.
"There is a snow blizzard here and all the planes are grounded until further notice," she broke the news to him.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I'm stuck at the airport as we speak." There were silence on the phone for a moment, as he spoke.
"Well I did tell you to come home earlier." This is not what she was to hear or deal with.
"I know, but I haven't seen my family for a long time."
"Still you know this was going to be our first Christmas together." She knew he was getting mad.
"Yohan, what am I supposed to do? I can't swim back to Korea now! But we can still do everything when I get back."
"You know I have things planned after Christmas with the group. We can't reschedule because of your mistake." That stung her heart with his comments. "I don't know anymore, Momo."
"Don't know about what?" She asked afraid of the answer he might give.
"I don't know if I want to continue this relationship." Momo felt the tears running down her cheeks. "It isn't working out for us. I'm sorry..." Momo held back her sobs. "I need to go." He just hung up, as Momo buried her head in her knees. She let out a few sobs, as now her relationship she was so happy with was now gone. She is alone at the airport and nobody to be with.
She doesn't know how long she was sitting there crying, as she just fell asleep by the window with the snow going on. The elderly couple stopped by to see her and notice the tear streaks on her face.
"The poor girl, stuck alone here," said his wife. They went to the gift shop to get her a blanket and some goodies. He placed the blanket over her and the wife set the bag down next to her.
"Hope her luck will turn around, dear."
.....
Momo woke up as she found the blanket around her. She was puzzled as she didn't have one to begin with. She saw the bag of goodies next to her and a card next to her. She opened the card at read it.Be strong and good things comes for those who wait. Keep smiling and you are loved.
Momo looked around to see who did this, but nobody was around her. She did smiled at the card, believe the good people left it for her is trying to cheer her up. She looked out the window and the weather hasn't change. She pulled the blanket up to warmth and just watch the snow. She ignored her phone that was going off, but she had it on silent. She did lot know Yohan was trying to call her. She did not know her friends were calling her. All Momo knows her Christmas is just her alone.
"Here young lady," she heard a voice, as the elderly couple came back to her with a cup of coffee. Momo smiled and took the coffee.
"You got me the blanket and goodies didn't you?" They nodded, as she smiled at them. "Thank you."
"It is tough to be alone for the holidays," said the elderly woman, sitting in front of her with her husband next to her. "We were supposed to go back to Korea as well to spend time with our grandchildren."
"One of them is having their first Christmas as well," the elderly man said. "Our family understand for us coming late."
"Wish I could say the same for myself," Momo said.
"It's tough right now as holidays get everyone's emotion all wild up. People don't mean things when they are said." She nodded at them, but it was still hurtful.
"We don't want you to be alone," the elderly woman said. "We can spend time Christmas together until the weather clears up and we are able to go to Korea." Momo smiled and nodded, as they did spend time together.
.....
The weather clear and and they were all able to go to Korea on Christmas Day. Momo still haven't check her phone since the argument with Yohan. She knows when she get back, she will call a taxi to take her to the dorms. All the girls will be gone, so she can have the place to herself. They got to the airport in Seoul, as Momo and the elderly couple walked together.
"It was so nice to meet you. I hope you have a great Christmas with your family," she said, as they smiled at her.
"Grandpa, Grandma!" A child called to the couple, as they smile.
"It's our grandson," the elderly man said. "I hope you do have yourself a merry Christmas."
"I will try but you made it worthwhile." The elderly couple when to their family, as hugs and kisses were going around. Momo couldn't help but smile at the family, as she walked away. She pulled out her phone to call a taxi. Before she could dial the number, her phone was taken away from her.
"Hey what's the big idea?" Momo said, as she looked up to see Yohan standing there with her phone in hand. "Yohan..."
After his argument with Momo yesterday, he felt so terrible and stupid what he told her. He did not want their relationship to end, as he was really stress on making this a perfect Christmas and his group activities. He has tried to call and text her, but she wouldn't answer. He called her friends to help him get a hold of her, but that failed. He drove himself to the airport and just waited for her. He knew she would come and didn't want to miss her. He slept in the uncomfortable chairs, waiting for her to show up. His appearance wasn't the best, as his clothes were a bit wrinkle.
"What are you doing here?" She was surprise he was there after everything. "I though you didn't..." Yohan pulled her into a hug and held her. Momo slowly wrapped her arms around his waist, as he spoke.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean any of that. I just wanted it to be perfect," he admitted. "I try to contact you many times, but you did not answer. I was fearing that I lost you because of my mistake. I came straight here and stay until I found you." He moved away and held her face in his hands. "I'm so sorry Princess for hurting you. Can you forgive me?" Momo smiled at him and nodded. He smiled and kissed her on the lips. He took her bag in one hand and her hand in the other. "Let's go to my place and spend time together before the Christmas party tonight."
