I stand at front of the mirror, tying my hair into a braid

I wore back turtle neck with black pant and restricted my makeup only to blush, mascara and a lip tint

Tying the last knot in my hair I grabbed my long brown coat and light brown muffler

Michigan was a getting colder my the day as the winters approached

Lucas had called me to his office because apparently there was something we needed to talk about

I had no idea what he'd wanted to tell me

But I was mentally prepared for everything he'd throw my way

A knock on my door startled me

"Dinners ready hon-" mom said as she took me in "uh hu are you going somewhere?"

I nodded, "Yes"

My mom raised a brow in question

But I ignored it

I was no longer a child and I didn't have to tell them where I was going

And I definitely wasn't going to tell mama that I'm meeting Lucas

After what had happened mama wasn't exactly fond of Lucas

And hearing about the man he'd become, they didn't approve

"Where are you going at this time Diane? Mama finally asked

I smiled walking to her as my boots clicked on the wooden floor

"I'm meeting a client, she lives here in Michigan.. I met her at the airport" I lied

"Oh how lovely" mama smiles back "I'm glad you're jobs going well.. you're getting clients here that means you might even shift here"

"I guess.. I mean I've missed this place" I said truthfully

Mama kissed me on my cheek, "this place is already doing good to you, now go and get that client"

I laughed

I wasn't always good at lying but after five years of lying to everyone that I'm alright when I really wasn't I guess I've become good at it

I left the house and sat in an Uber

There was no way I was going to go in the jeep

Mom had a gps attached to it and she'd find out I lied to her

But the main reason why I didn't take the jeep was because I didn't want to have another repeat of the lunch day

If the jeep bailed on me again I'd be stuck with Lucas dropping me home and I'd have to endure him the entire ride home

It was ten minutes to eight so I sent a quick message to Lucas

I'm on my way

His reply came back a while later

Don't text while driving

For some reason his words warmed my heart, did he care if I got hurt?
