"I now pronounce you husband and wife" the father declared

"You may kiss the bride" he continued

Yes you heard it right. I'm at a wedding. But not as a brides maid or a chief guest but as one of the back benchers where far relatives sit.

But I'm not a far relative. I'm the brides best friend. A.k.a the ex brides maid

Now you're probably wondering what I'm doing sitting at the back.

Well it's a long story. Let's just say we have some misunderstandings

And if you're thinking how I'm invited, we'll no matter how much your best friend hates you she'll never get married without you on her big day.

Everyone starting clapping as the bride and groom kissed each other.

Ella is my best friend, and the groom Hade was also a mutual friend of ours.

They're both perfect for each other and I'm glad they've finally married.

"Don't they look adorable?" An old lady seated next to me asked

"Certainly they do" I replied, smiling

"Who are you to the newly weds?" She asked

I was hesitant to reply, "Uh.. I'm actually her best friend"

The old lady gave me a 'why are you not standing next to her look'

But before she could speak, "We have a few differences" I added

She smiled, "Well I'm sure you'll sort them out"

"What about you?" I asked

She laughed, "I'm the grooms mom's mother in law"

Well I'm not the only awkward person here

"You mean his grandmother?" I beamed

"Let's just say we also have our differences" she said

I smiled, "Well I'm sure you'll sort them out too"

We both laughed

Ella and Hade had now walked all the way down towards the main entrance.

This was the part where everyone was going to gather up and she was going to throw her bouquet.

A few months ago the idea of me catching it would have sounded appalling but now it's just some bullshit myth to me.

Ella was laughing with all the people around her when suddenly we both made eye contact.

I was her smile fade away.

I smiled back at her not knowing if I should go and say hi or not, considering the situation we were in.

But to my shock she smiled back and lipped, "Thank you for being here"

"Always" I mouthed back, a smile forming on my face

That was an improvement because I hadn't talked to Ella since the last three months. She never called me or messaged me.

She didn't even send me an email asking how I was.

I on the other hand kept if messaging her once a week sending her my best wishes.

She never read the text messages because she probably blocked me but I also sent her emails that I hoped she at least read.

The only thing I received was a wedding invitation last week. And I flew all the way to Michigan from New York to attend the wedding.

Everyone gathered around Ella and the girls started hooting.

"Why are you sitting? Go and stand there you deserve a chance to catch that bouquet" the old lady who was sitting next to me asked

"Uh.. no I'd rather sit here. I don't believe-"

"Oh come on! It's a bad omen if you're unmarried and you're not a part of the tradition" she cut me in

I gave her a quirky brow

"Just go for your best friend at least, you don't want her marriage being affected because of a bad omen you created" she said

I took a deep breath. I loved Ella even if she didn't love me right now.

And if this really was a bad omen then I wasn't going to make the situation worse so I decided to stand far behind the women who were so eager to catch the bouquet.

It's not like I'll going to catch it far up from here

Ella began counting

One

Two

Three

Ella turned around to see all the women behind her, a mischievous glint her eyes.

And she threw the bouquet behind her. All the ladies began screaming

But to my luck she threw the bouquet with such force that it went over all the women and cams landing in my hands.

"Oh for fucks sake!" I mumbled

Everyone turned around to see the 'lucky woman' who caught the bouquet

There was complete silence in the hall as everyone looked at me.

Ella turned around to look at me and smiled.

Everyone started clapping

This was one of the most awkward situations I've been in my life.

I gave everyone a weak smile.

I looked up to see Ella and Hades, instead my eyes made contact with a pair of familiar green eyes.

Those green eyes belonged to no other than Lucas.

He stared at me with an icy look. And I instantly looked away.

To my rescue the same old lady walked towards me, "Oh I knew it! I'm so happy!"

I smiled back

I looked back to see if Lucas was there or not but I couldn't find him.

Everyone had left outside to bid farewell to the newly wedded couple.

Lucas is Ella elder brother.

I've never been very close to him but we've always had a mutual liking towards each other.

But things have changed now

We have a sea of misunderstandings between us and I don't think that'll ever change.

No matter how much I try to tell him I was the innocent one he'd never believe me.

I mean if my very own best friend doesn't believe me why would her brother?
