I reach for the button on the vending machine and press a combination of numbers, hopefully giving me any kind of chocolate bar.
But nothing happens. Nothing moves or tells me to type in another number.
"You've got to be kidding me." I say and punch against the machine's frame. Again, nothing moves.
I sigh and let my head fall forward, pressing it against the glass, eyeing the many different sweets. My stomach reminds me of the lack of food in my body. The bell rings and rips me out of my thoughts.
Hundreds of students rush through the hallway, exchanging secret handshakes and having intense conversations. I lean against the vending machine and observe the scene. When I try to move forwards, through the massive crowd that has suddenly developed around me. Suddenly, someone pushes me and I stumble backwards. Right when I'm about to fall down, backwards on the ground, something takes a hold of me and steadies my body.
I immediately know who it is, remember exactly the pressure of the hands and their size. Reminding myself to stay calm, I slowly turn around and dare to look in these hazel eyes.
"Thank you." I say and as I'm about to turn away, he grabs my arm and holds me back.
"We need to talk."
His voice makes it so damn hard, not to let the emotions run free and rip his head off.
"What about?" You could literally smell the sarcasm in the air.
His glare is serious and I immediately feel the urge to kiss him and slap him in his precious face, simultaneously.
"Oh, come on, Aria. Don't play games with me."
The people in the hallway, standing next to us, are so loud that I can't even hear my own thoughts.
"As I recall, we talked and decided to call the whole thing off. Nothing happened afterwards."
He raises an eyebrow. "Aria, I really need to tell you so-
"Nothing!" I raise my hand and stop him. "Absolutely. Nothing. Happened."
When I raise my head, Aaron spots me from across the hallway. He waves and immediately realises who I'm talking to. Then he starts to pull weird faces and I wave him off.
My head is already somewhere else, as I take a last look at him. "I'll see you in cla-
"I love you, Aria."
The words immediately rip me out of my thoughts and I'm thrown into the reality. Hours, have I spent, thinking about how the words would sound out of his mouth, in the certain tone of his voice. How I would feel, when I get to hear them. Surprised? Excited? In love?
The only thing I felt, was pure, intense, aggressive, anger.
"Don't you fucking dare." I have to take a deep breath to calm myself. "Don't you dare talk to me, call me or dare even look at me. I'm officially out of this game. Stay away from me." My voice isn't more than a whisper, but as intense as I've never heard before.
My feet walk towards Aaron and I leave Downey standing there, feeling his stare in my back, burning it's way right through to my heart.
Aaron opens his arms and I let myself fall into them, breathing in his Beyoncé perfume.
"What's up with sexy professor?" He asks, but I only shake my head.
"Not so sexy anymore?"
My head denies again and he leans his forehead against mine.
"You want to get out of here?"
It's probably the only thing I want to do right now, but running away seems like worst thing I could do. So, I decide to stay and concur my fears.
"Just remember, stay calm and don't let him put any pressure on you."
Aaron says, calmly.
"Let's just get something to eat, alright?" I reply.
"Pizza is on me." Aaron takes my hand and pulls me towards the cafeteria.

After taking about ten deep, long breaths, I finally managed to place my hand on the door handle and stepped into the classroom.
Downey's eyes widen as he sees me. I can feel that he's surprised to see me, actually attending this class.
Quickly, I look away and almost run towards my seat, sliding as deep into it as I can.
The other students come into the room and when Bryan sees me, he waves. "What's up, Aria?"
I smile, weakly. "Not much. How's the thing going?" Pointing discreetly at Maya. His face lights up and he immediately tells me everything. How they got back together, right after we went on our fake date. He's utterly in love with her, I can see it in his eyes. He moves his seat next to Maya's and they engage into a very intense conversation about wether they want to wear blue or purple to prom.
Prom! Something I have never even wasted a thought on. My senior prom. The night, where every teenage girl has the date of her dreams. The night, all the movies tell you about. The night, I will probably spend alone, by myself, with Netflix and pizza, maybe some Ben&Jerry's.
A lot of times, Aaron tried to get me to wear matching outfits and go out together. But deep down, I still want that date, that night, that ridiculous dress and suit and tie.
"Alright, everyone. Come along."
Downey's voice rips me out of my thoughts.
The class calms down and listens carefully.
"So, Miss Austen is presenting her book today." He leans back in his chair and kicks his feet on the table, folding his hands behind his head.
"Miss Austen?"
Emma looks up and frowns. "My name is Emma- Jane, Sir."
He rolls is eyes and I catch myself smirking at his reaction.
"Just start with your damn book."
He snaps.
Emma stands up and starts to talk about Pride & Prejudice.
When she says something about the relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett, I hear my self interfere.
"That's bullshit."
My hand shuts my mouth, but it's too late. I caught his attention.
"Miss Hart." He immediately raises from his chair and walks towards the front row. "Please, explain yourself."
I sigh and prepare myself for the downfall. "I just think that Mr. Darcy is a fucking jerk."
"And why is that?" He asks.
"He's so damn proud, makes clear that he doesn't want a serious relationship. And suddenly, out of the blue proposes to her and expects her to just give in."
His eyebrows narrow and his glance gets more and more intense.
"Maybe Mr. Darcy just wasn't ready. Maybe he had to get together the courage to ask her and commit to this serious relationship." He replies.
My hands start to shake. "Well, Mr. Darcy certainly had the time to go to London with Caroline Bingley! It's obvious that they've got something going on."
"Maybe they had something, yes, I admit that. - Mr. Darcy may admit that, but maybe she was just telling him that she found someone else, someone who is quite different to him, not so much to her."
"So, your telling me that Caroline Bingley just went with Darcy to London, to tell him that she's a homosexual." I repeat.
I can see it in his eyes, the smirk that is on the way. The smirk I love so much.
"Yes. That's exactly what I was trying to tell you." He shakes his head. "What Mr. Darcy was trying to tell Elisabeth."
"Well then, I think Elisabeth has her reasons to marry him."
"I really hope she does." Downey replies.
"You have a very interesting interpretation of Pride & Prejudice, Professor Downey."
"I may give that back to you Miss Hart."
And for a second, there isn't anything else in the room, just us.
"I'm really sorry to interrupt, but that wasn't exactly what I was going for, Professor."
Emma says and sits back down in her seat, trying to figure out what a gay Caroline Bingley has to do with the novel.
"That's the thing with story's like these." Downey says and looks me right in the eye. "They never go out of style."
