"Just so you guys know, I invited the Downey's over for dinner tonight."
Hannah says and my head immediately lifts up.
"Didn't we just have them over today for a BBQ?" I ask, as I put the rest of the plates in the dishwasher. "Why are we having them over again for dinner?"
My mother smiles and shrugs her shoulders. "I think it's a great idea. They're both very kind and we still have so much leftovers. I could make a casserole."
"Who's coming over for dinner?" My dad says, as he steps into the kitchen. He gives Hannah a kiss on her head and starts helping her with the glasses.
"Downey Brothers." She says and suddenly my father's eyes widen.
"Robert is coming for dinner?"
Oh yes. There is the squeaky voice again. I roll my eyes and turn my back on him.
"Yeah, I invited them." Hannah mumbles.
Putting down the glass, my dad runs up the stairs.
"Honey! Where are my Italian shoes?"
My mom starts laughing and Hannah joins her.
I don't think it's funny. Not a bit.
Not a teeny tiny bit.
"Since when is Dad so in love with Robert?" Hannah asks.
"It was love at first sight." My mom jokes and I frown.
"Don't you think it's kind of odd that my teacher is always at our house?" I say, as unsuspicious as I can.
"Well, he's not your real teacher, isn't he? Just a part of the program. And you won't see him again after you graduate in two weeks." Hannah answers.
It's the first time that I actually think about graduation. Only two weeks left, which means 14 days left of ......Downey.
"Don't be so inhospitable, Aria." My mom says and flips her hair off of her shoulder. "I can't believe that you don't like him, it's so unreasonable."
"I don't think it's normal, for a teacher to hang around a student's house." I reply and dedicate myself to the dishes.
"Firstly, he doesn't just hang around here, we invited him and he has a reason to be here. Secondly, it's rather immature of you, to act so unkind towards someone and last but not least, I've told you often enough..." She walks over to me and opens the dishwasher. "A frying pan has to be cleaned by hand."------ 4 hours later ------
I thought I wasn't going to be confronted with him, until tomorrow morning. And now I have to act like nothing has happened. His static jealousy is so annoying that it makes me angry just thinking about it.
My sister is eager to see John and my parents can't wait to see Downey again and I'm just sitting here, in the living room, feeling awkward as hell.
Shouldn't my parents be more worried that Downey is spending so much time with me? Shouldn't they be suspicious of the fact that he hasn't got a problem with showing up here?
For two hours, my dad has been running around the house, organising his shoe collection. He wants to show them to Downey. My dad is literally the weirdest man ever.
My mom prepared a dinner for 10 people, even though we are just 6 and Hannah is trying to find the most revealing dress she has.
What's wrong with my family? What do Downeys rise up in them?
What do they awake in them?
It's ridiculous, like we're having the Queen of England for tea.
So much effort put into one dinner.
When the doorbell rings, I don't even bother to get up and open it. Hannah just ran over my dad, so she could open the door and now he's moping.
"John!" Hannah says.
"Robert!" My dad interrupts.
"Hannah!" John says.
"James." Downey says.
My mom comes downstairs and towards the door.
"Robert!"
"Sarah!"
"John!"
"Sarah!"
"Oh for god's sake! Shut the fuck up." I say and walk past them into the kitchen.
"Aria!" My parents shout and immediately excuse themselves for my inappropriate behaviour.
They come in and my family leads them into the living room. My mom and dad immediately start to talk with Downey and Hannah and John are not a second apart from each other.
I get myself a glass of water and observe the scene with a sceptic eye.
Why is everyone so fond of each other? It makes me sick.
I gulp everything down at once and put the glass next to the sink.
Then I hear footsteps coming closer.
"Well, well, well. The joy of the evening. The sparkle of the night. My dream, my fantasy, my world."
"Professor." I reply, dry.
He raises an eyebrow. "Why so mad?"
"I think seeing you once a day, is already enough." I say and lean against the fridge, crossing my arms. "Don't you have something else to do?"
"What could possibly be more enchanting to engage in a conversation with a lady like you?" Downey whispers and shows his gorgeous smile.
"I please, I'm too sober for your talk."
"What talk?" He asks.
"The 'I will surround you with endless sweetness and compliments, so maybe later we can screw in my car' talk." I say and raise an eyebrow.
He steps a bit closer. "Well, aren't you something else, Sherlock."
I chuckle and try not to break eye contact.
"Thanks Watson." I reply and wink.
"Robert!"
I hear my father shouting from the living room.
"I think you are needed." I say and laugh.
"So, did it work?"
Frowning, I lean over. "What?"
"Did the talk work?" Downey says and before he steps away, he whispers in my ear. "'Cause in my mind we're somewhere in my car."
