I'm not sure, wether to knock or leave. My heart races and my stomach feels like its not going to survive this.
It's 7: 50 pm.
And I'm sitting in my car, staring at the front door. I take out my phone and write a pro con list, deciding, wether to get out or drive away. What if this is wrong? And he's just using my weakness....or what if this is serious and I'm only minutes away from it.
Looking in the back mirror, I straighten my hair and look into my eyes. No risk, no fun. You don't want to ask yourself, what if?
My fingers tremble, as I open and shut the car door behind me.
It has gotten a bit warmer and the air is filled with summer scents.
Slowly, I step towards the stairs and at least try to breathe calmly.
Swallowing the rest of my doubts, I knock, three times.
Nothing happens. What if he's not even there? If this whole thing was a joke?!
The door opens all of a sudden and I jump a bit backwards.
He has changed his clothes and wears a grey shirt, with a dark jeans, which hang a bit low. The shirt fits his torso perfectly and I can see the muscles emerging under it.
Not wearing any socks, his feet make tap sounds on the wooden floor.
His first look, is on his wrist watch and he raises an eyebrow.
"7:59, someone is eager to have sex."
My eyes flutter from his forwardness and I gasp, uncontrolled.
"I'm only here for the pool." I say and walk past him, throwing my bag on the kitchen counter.
"Certainly, you are." He mumbles and I can almost smell the sarcasm.
Downey closes the door and leans against it.
"You look good."
I turn around, to catch him examining my appearance.
"Calm yourself, Perv." I say and walk towards one of the giant sofas.
"Why do you have so many sofas? It's such a waste of space."
Downey walks towards one of them as let's himself fall into the big pillows.
"I need a lot of opportunity." He replies and I frown, a bit confused.
"For what?" I ask, not getting it.
He licks his lips and raises an eyebrow. "Well, I'm not the let's- do- it- in- bed- every- night kinda guy."
I jump up and straighten my clothes.
"Ew!"
He laughs, his raspy laugh and sits up. "Don't worry, this one is still pure."
Shooting him an angry look, I walk towards the kitchen and pour myself a glass of water.
"You want to change that?"
I spit the water out of my mouth and start to cough.
"Excuse me?" I whisper, through my coughing.
"I was just joking." He replies, but still looks at me as if he wasn't.
"I brought my bikini, so where is the pool?" I ask.
He stands up and comes towards me. "Did you also bring your blanket and your favourite pillow for the sleepover?"
I narrow my eyes and feel the urge inside me, to punch him in his face, growing.
"Who said anything about staying the night?" I reply and cross my arms.
"Honey, you won't be able to walk after tonight."
I gulp, probably a bit too loud, because Downey starts to laugh really loud. He can't stop it and has to sit down on one of the kitchen chairs, holding his stomach.
"What's wrong with you?!" I mumble and start cleaning up the kitchen counter, from my water.
Finally, he stops his bursting laughter and breaths heavily.
"I think it's the constant deprivation of your presence."
I'm still angry, but it makes me smile, a little.
"How's John?" I ask and try to sound careless.
Downey swallows it. "He's quite good."
I turn my back on him and continue drying off the water.
"Is he in a relationship?"
"No, he's had a couple of girlfriends, but the last one was, I think, I don't know....a year ago or-
He stops and looks at me, I can feel it in my back.
"Aria." He mumbles. "Don't you even try."
I smirk and turn around. "I was just making conversation."
"We don't have to be making conversation. There are a lot of other things we could do."
"Oh, and there is the Pervert again." I say and throw the towel next to the sink.
I earn a smile from him and he steps towards me.
"Do you want to see the pool?"
His voice is raspy, and makes me swoon.
I nod and Downey takes my hand. We walk upstairs and it's the first time, I see his bedroom. The second floor, is one big room. In the centre there is a king sized bed, in grey and white coloured sheets. On the walls, are pictures of people, I recognise as John and Downey. Even some portraits with Downey and, as impressed as I am, celebrity's. There is one with Julia Roberts, one with Johnny Depp and even one with Harrison Ford.
The wall towards the ocean, is a giant window, showing a perfect view of the beach.
"Wow." I just stand there, in front of the window, captivated by the view. "It's so beautiful."
Downey stands next a to me and takes my hand. "Come on, I'll show you the roof."
I follow him, we walk up the stairs again, this time, a smaller one, leading towards a metal door.
He pulls a key out of the pocket of his jeans and unlocks the door. With a slight push, he opens it and we both step outside.
Paradise, or as Downey calls it 'the roof, is a huge terrace. In the middle, there is a giant pool, located, next to it are some chairs and a table. Because of the low outside walls, you could see the beach and the ocean's waves, crashing into the sand.
"You've got to be kidding me." I whisper and run fingers through my hair.
"I'm glad I could impress you." He says and smirks. "So, do you want to go for a swim?"
"Why is your place so amazing? I thought you were from New York." I say and look at him. "And since when are you famous?"
"I know someone, who knows someone." He answers and then turns towards me. "And I've always been famous!"
I burst out into laughter. "No you haven't."
"Aren't the pictures enough proof?"
"Seriously, I'm impressed with Harrison Ford, but since you're so famous, why are you doing this program at our school?" I reply.
"They want to see I'm human. Not only a mass seduction machine."
I raise an eyebrow and cross my arms. "So, it's just for your resumé?"
His eyes narrow and he steps from one foot on the other. "Maybe."
"Has anyone ever told you, you're a bit of an asshole?" I say and turn towards the ocean, taking in a breath of the salty air.
Downey does the same. "Look at me, that's all they ever tell me."
We look at each other and start chuckling. The wind on the roof, as messed up his hair and lets it constantly fall into his eyes.
"Do you want to use the pool, or just look at it?" He asks, with sarcasm.
"I'm just gonna get my bi-
"There won't be time for that." He screams and suddenly grabs me on my waist and throws me into the pool.
The water embraces me and parts for a second, just to close above my head. I managed to get some air, coming out of the water.
I scream at him and rub my eyes, only to see him laughing his heart out.
"I can't..." He says and holds his stomach. "Your face.....priceless."
"Downey! You idiot!" I shout and splash as quickly and much as I can, water in his direction. Luckily, he's close enough and now as soaked as I am.
I get out of the pool and look down at my body.
Oh lord, why again, did I wear a white shirt ?
"I don't have anything to change!"
"Oh god. I think you have to stay here, until your clothes are dry." He imitates me and continues to laugh.
Finally, Downey stops laughing and looks at me, his eyes widen and he smirks. "Nice bra."
"Fuck you." I reply and try to walk past him, without slipping on the wet floor. Right next to him, my feet slip away and I fall backwards. His arms embrace my waist and he steadies my body, keeps me from falling.
"Careful."
Furiously, I shoot him a glare and he let's go of my waist.
"I'm sorry." Downey apologises. "I thought it was funny."
"Well, I didn't!" I snap. "What am I going to tell my parents, when I come home in a fucking bikini?"
"Calm down, you can get some of my stuff. And you'll just wear your jacket over it."
His face moves closer to mine and I gasp. "I think you'll look pretty good in my clothes."
"Oh thank you, I really want to look good in the clothes of a 80 year old."
Slowly, he inhales and exhales. "Aria, what have I told you about calling me old?"
