Downey looks at me, full of expectation. The left corner of his mouth slightly jerks upwards. I'm completely captivated by his forwardness. He doesn't care about a single thing that could possibly go wrong between us. The one reason, why he is doing this, which I haven't found out yet, is presumably the only one he needs.
It has gotten utterly dark outside and since we're standing far away from the next streetlight, I can only see the rough traits of his face.
As I'm about to open my mouth to answer his question, I hear a door behind me open. Quickly, I turn around and recognise Hannah, stepping out onto the porch.
"Are you two alright?" Her tone is more curious than concerned.
Immediately, Downey moves a bit away from me and the warmth of his body disappears into the night.
"Absolutely fine, how's everything in there?"
I always admire Downey's causality in delicate situations.
"Hurry up, Aria. Dad seems to tell one of the good stories." She says and disappears into the house.
Downey waves a little bit and when Hannah has completely disappeared, he turns to me and suddenly moves extremely close.
"Answer."
I frown. "Excuse me?"
"For once, Aria, just answer the damn question."
The tone of his voice is now more demanding, giving me the chills all over my body.
"No." I whisper.
He raises an eyebrow and shows a cheeky grin. "No?"
I slowly shake my head. "I won't give you the satisfaction of answering the question."
A little laughter escapes his throat and I move a bit backwards. The atmosphere changes from one second to another and I can feel the tension of his body from small inches away.
"Well, satisfaction comes in many different ways." He replies in a hushed, raspy voice.
"Stop it, you filthy animal." I say and have to laugh.
Then I feel his hand on my back and my chest touches his. The sudden warmth of his body, makes me dizzy, so I lean into his embrace.
"Would you like to spend the next weekend at my place?"
My eyelids flutter. "I don't think thi-
"Oh come on Aria, don't play coy." He says and leans closer, brushing my cheek with his lips.
I clench my fists, trying not to give in.
"We could order some dinner, maybe swim in the ocean, or in the pool. See a movie and spend some time doing some other stuff ..."
I gasp. My hands feel sweaty and I can't help but feeling ridiculous about it.
"Downey....what about my paren-
"Don't worry, you'll just tell them you're spending a couple of days with your friends. We'll go right after school, how does that sound?"
I put my hands on his chest to keep him at distance.
"That sounds intriguing, but I think-
"Alright then, I will wait for you after school on Friday."
"Your so persistent." I say and tilt my head a bit.
"And you're so hard to get." He replies.
"I think I'd better get going." I reply and move away.
Downey looks towards the house and I frown.
Then all of a sudden, his head moves closer to mine and soft lips touch.
The worlds collide and in one swift moment, the gap between us, which has existed for too long, has vanished.
My lips part and I suck in a sharp breath, as his hand wanders over my thighs.
The familiar taste of his lips seems to sway me into the awakening force of our connection. Reminding me of a mixture of martini and lemon drops, it rushes through my veins, filling me with life. His hands bury themselves in my hair.
To catch my breath, I let our lips part for a second. He whimpers slightly, from the loss of touch.
We breathe heavily. The warm air fills my lungs and doesn't taste as good as the kiss.
"I sh-should get insi-
"Can't you. Just for. One second." Downey has to take deep breaths between his words. "Shut. Your damn mouth."
I raise an eyebrow. "Kiss my ass, grandpa."
"I would love to." He replies and I can't hide a grin. "So, Friday?"
"I guess." I say and try to rearrange my hair. "Why do you always have to mess up my hair?"
"I like the way it looks, when I do it." Downey says.
I frown. "You're weird."
"I will take that as a compliment." He states.
Rolling my eyes, I slowly back away. "Have a good night, Professor."
He smiles, running a hand through his hair. Then he walks around the car and opens the driver's seat.
"Remember Friday."
I act as if I were the Queen and wave at him. "I can't promise anything, but I can assure you that I will consider it."
I have reached the door by now and lean against it.
Downey gets into his car and rolls down the window of the passenger door.
"Embrace the weirdness, Aria."
He shouts and then starts the engine, to pull into the street.
I see his car disappearing into the night, the red lights slowly vanishing in the darkness.
