Note: I don't own Haikyuu and stuff.
Large, cat-like eyes scan the area around the teenager as he confirms he is in fact lost in central Tokyo in May. Fukunaga Shohei is about a month or so into his third year at Nekoma High and received his invitation letter for the scholarship try outs for Tokyo University for the following year, his first-choice school.
He's excited for it but is supposed to be doing an interview with them the following day which has him a little jittery. The hoops he has to jump through for this are newly odd to him, but he doesn't care. He wants it, badly.
He glances at his phone, open on a chat with Yaku worrying about the possibility of him getting lost that he had responded to at 7:13 a.m. Fukunaga (or as his friends like to call him most of the time nowadays, Fuku) had told him he'd made it to the hotel and was about to check in so he'd relax, to which he had gotten a relieved and proud response from the mom of the group. He doesn't want to tell the ex-libero it doesn't matter now. He slowly locks the device and lowers it again with a soft sigh.
His skinny 5'10" frame allows him to see more of the busy streets than quite a few others and yet it's all foreign to him, he doesn't recognize a thing. He tried to check into the hotel he was planning to stay in for his weeklong visit that he'd miraculously memorized the way to, but they didn't have any rooms available so he was left fretting as he wanders around trying to find another before it gets too late. It's proving to be difficult with three conventions in the city at once.
He's from a different part of the same prefecture so he thought he'd be fine despite his personal challenges in regard to directions, especially after having been to the area (after a long train ride) more than once with the volleyball club. Oh, how he wishes he'd paid more attention to his surroundings now instead of allowing Taketora or Inuoka to herd him along while he got distracted by little things... Like adorable stray cats and shiny displays in store windows. Curse his curiosity.
Another small sigh and several hours later, he's getting more and more worried and nervous. He's been going since the early morning like this and still nothing except sore feet. He even skipped breakfast and apparently lunch if the ache in his stomach is any indication. He has one last thing he can try, but he'd really been hoping to avoid talking to his previous captain and admitting he got lost after all.
One last desperate look around the overly busy streets as his lean frame is shoved about for the millionth time makes his decision for him as he removes himself from the crowded street over to the side of a cute little cafe with a frustrated pout at the predicament. Pulling out his phone, he shoots a quick message off reluctantly.
My first solo trip keeps getting worse and I've only been on it for half a day, how am I going to survive the week? Maybe Meowma was right and I shouldn't be allowed out, Tora said I should have a babysitter... Oh god, was he right? No. Just need to get to Pawpaw. He only has to wait a moment before his pathetic picture captioned "Lost Again" causes his phone to start ringing. He hurries to grab his headphones for the video chat and answers. He'll definitely need them with so much foot traffic around if he wants any chance of hearing this conversation.
"-does not like you better! He texted me!" Kuroo's on his screen sticking his tongue out while sticking up his middle finger teasingly, but the lost one blinks as the man who graduated the year before wasn't even talking to him. He's looking to the side, talking to someone off screen with his handsome trademark crooked smirk. Shohei will not admit that out loud, denial only. As they bicker, he glances at the writing on the cafe windows describing products and wonders if they have any yummy things.
"-ku. Fuuuuuuku~ Fukunaga!" The younger jumps slightly as the voice calling him yells suddenly before his eyes dart back to his phone, he's distracted yet again but damn it... He's hungry, tired and food sounds so very good right now. Maybe they have a nice French vanilla? "Who's with you that let you get lost? Is it your dad?"
