After a lot of annoying arguments throughout the week, Adrien pretended to forgive Nino and Alya. He would genuinely have done so but....it was their fault.

It was their fault that he was feeling so weird, and their fault he was nearly always thinking of Marinette. And their fault that he had, quite possibly, fallen in love with her....

                                                               ***

Marinette was growing impatient. Why the heck was Adrien always so late for their studying sessions? She looked so stupid just sitting there in the library all alone with a bunch of her textbooks, after school was already over and everybody had gone home...

She clicked her tongue irritably. This was getting really annoying. She sighed and decided to just leave, since Adrien was obviously busy or whatever and--

Someone tapped her on the shoulder, causing her to instinctively get as far away from her predator as she could, breathing heavily. Physical contact was scary to her, kind of. And then she saw who it was and proceeded to glare at him.

"You're late" said Marinette flatly. Adrien rolled his eyes and sat down next to her. He passed his assignment to her so she could check if he made any mistakes. Marinette seemed to think he was too lazy to check by himself.

But honestly, he just wanted a bit more time around her. And yet, he also wanted to always avoid her no matter what. It was as though two different parts of his brain were fighting over which would be better.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when she spoke up.

"So, is your father letting you go to that Christmas dance they told us about yesterday?" asked Marinette conversationally, whilst double-checking for any errors in his analysis.

"Yes. He thinks it'd be a good opportunity to 'show my classmates how much of a talented designer he is' or something" he told her  "But honestly, I think it's pretty nice of him to let me go. But the thing is, I haven't chosen a partner..."

The last line seemed to distract Marinette from her work. She put down his file on the table and looked at him, perplexed. Adrien regretted his mistake.

"Uhh...aren't you going with Kagami?" she asked.

"Oh...yeah, right. Um...anyways, what about you? I'm guessing you don't have a partner. I can't imagine how any sane person would ask you..." again, Adrien found himself regretting the words that had come out from his mouth. Marinette was looking at him, suddenly looking angry.

"And why exactly is that? I'm not attractive enough by modern society's standards?" said Marinette coldly "I don't care what society thinks, okay?"

"Well, it's not that...it's just..." Adrien struggled to find the right words "I mean, I guess you look decent enough. Recently I heard a few dudes talking about your boobs, they said that you're practically flat. But then again, they also said you have a fine ass, that maid costume in Alya's place really brought it out or something...."

Marinette's face turned a furious shade of red. "Is that all you boys care about? The size of a girl's....private parts!?" she said indignantly " That's just shallow! I was right about you lot!"

Feeling harassed, Marinette tried to walk away but Adrien tugged at her arm and attempted to pull her back.

"Okay..um...it's not that reason exactly but....well, I can explain it to you, if you'd like....?" he said in a nervous voice. She sat down, crossed her arms, but listened anyways. Adrien cleared his throat, thinking of the best way to say this.

"Well, your appearance aside, there are a lot of things about you that are really unattractive to most boys" he said, not realizing that his comment was insensitive "I mean, your personality is probably the exact opposite of a typical guy's dream girl.  Like, your social skills are really fucking bad, you're a prude, you don't go to parties, you think men are pigs, you're icy and well....you're pretty damned basic. And like I said, your body is...uh...you know, no offense..."

Marinette stood up, packed her bag furiously and looked at him coldly. Just when she had begun to think he wasn't that bad, he proved her wrong. He was just as shallow and insensitive as she had thought he was.

"Offense taken" she spat. And with that, she stormed off, leaving Adrien to wonder exactly which part of their conversation had gotten her so worked up....
