JACK KNEW the moment they ended up at mystic falls one of many forests that tonight was either going to be amazing, or horrible. Either he and his friends would rekindle or they'd tell him just how much he screwed up.

They were walking along the Fell Crypt, a couple of conversations going on while Jack walked at the very back, going through his phone trying to look of importance. He truly just wanted to go back to Klaus's and lay in bed, listening to music. But he couldn't leave because he knew he'd regret it, and it's Caroline's birthday.

"There it is!" Elena exclaimed as they walked up to the crypt. Jack hadn't been here since freshman year, the first real party he'd ever gone to.

Bonnie dropped her hand to her side, "This is creepy, even for us" she said. Jack nodded agreeing.

Elena furrowed her brows and shook her head, "No, Caroline was right. . .technically, she's dead. Sorry. But you don't need a birthday, you need a funeral. You need to say goodbye to your old life, so that you can move on with your new one" she explained.

"You're new life is going to be amazing" Jack added, putting an arm around Caroline with a smile. Caroline smiled back.

She gulped, "Okay. Here lies Caroline Forbes. . ." she said shaky.

Elena pulled out a pack of candles and stuck them in the cake, eighteen for her eighteenth birthday. "Cheerleader, Miss Mystic Falls, third grade hopscotch champion. . ." she. spoke.

Bonnie laughed, "Friend, daughter, overachiever. . ." she added.

"Mean girl, sometimes, no offence" Matt raised his hands in surrender.

                 Caroline shrugged, "Ah, none taken".

"She's a sister, and a best friend, even when I was ten she was everything I aspired to be. You still are" Jack said squeezing her shoulder.

Elena looked smug, "She was 17, and she had a really good life. So rest in peace, so that she can move forward" she walked toward Caroline holding the cake in front of her. "That's what you really need. What we all really need. Amen, or cheers or whatever. Bonnie?" she called out.

Bonnie raised her arm and lit the candles all at once.

"Nice! Okay, make a wish." Elena ordered. Caroline closed her eyes, leaned towards the cake and thought of something, blowing out the candles.

It was now way past twelve in the morning, the group was still at the crypt and Jack was digging into his third piece of cake. Matt grabbed the bottle of tequila from Bonnie but Elena snatched it from him. "Ah-ah. I need it more then you do, trust me. Caroline, what are you doing?" she asked looking at the blonde.
