chapter twenty-one
(the frost)
HOW JACK got here, he had no idea. Standing in his room, suit on, hair gelled, and somehow getting along with his newfound 'family' felt odd, to say the least. It still felt weird. He has a family, it felt like a dream. He'd always imagine somebody coming to get him one day saying something like, 'hey, Jack we're your family, sorry for the mix up' but to have that actually happen was unimaginable. He still didn't know how to act. Was he supposed to connect with them immediately? was there supposed to be some sort of connection he felt? because to him these people were still just the bloodsucking originals taking over his town. And Esther, Jack couldn't even wrap his mind around her. His mother. Wasn't a mother supposed to be there for you as you grew up? be by your side every step of the way? Why had his mother lied about where he actually came from? and why would she have lied about who she was, how she died, even lie about him having a family. Nothing made sense to Jack. Maybe he hadn't actually seen her? but she felt so real, she touched him, held him. So she had to be.
Jack shook his head looking in the full-body mirror. He most definitely didn't want to attend this Mikaelon Ball with all his friends invited. He didn't want the truth to get out yet, but it definitely would tonight. He still felt terrible after the last dance, ball, whatever you'd like to call it. He just didn't have the best luck at these types of things.
"Well don't you look, dashing" Rebekah complimented walking into his room.
Jack felt his heart spread up a bit but he tried to convince himself if they wanted to hurt him they would've done it by now. "Uh, thank you but I'm not the biggest fan of suits or ties for that matter" he replied truthfully, undoing his tie and putting it on his bed in defeat. The truth was suits felt restricting and uncomfortable to him.
Rebekah laughed, "You might not like suits but the rest of the guys in this family do, especially Elijah. You'll never catch him not wearing one" she admitted, grabbing the tie off the bed and walking toward Jack. "Come here, I've tied quite a lot of ties in my lifetime".
Jack turned around and faced her. "Ties are not my thing. They're way to complicated for me to wear" he laughed nervously.
Rebekah put it around his neck, knotting it and then pulling, making tying a tie look quite easy. "You don't have to be scared of us you know, Jack" she said stepping back. "We're you're family, whether you remember us or not you are. We'd all jump in front of a bullet for you. And we missed you dearly." she looked in the mirror and fixed her green dress.
Jack tsked, "I'm not scared of you guys" he said confidently. "Okay well maybe a bit but only because the whole time you've been here in Mystic Falls it effected my friends in a harmful way" he admitted scratching his head.
Rebekah smiled, though Jack could tell there was something hidden behind it. "Uh, Elijah just wanted me to tell you guest will be arriving around six so be downstairs sometime before then" she informed standing up.
Jack felt bad, like he'd insulted her or something. "Look, Rebekah. I didn't mean to like insult you or something" he tried to apologize. "Just. . .everything in my life feels different right now and I'm trying to figure out if it's a good difference or not. So I'm sorry if I said something to offend you" he added, stuffing his hand in his pocket.
Rebekah's smile lifted, and immediately made Jack feel better. "Don't worry, Jack. We all understand how hard this had all been on you. So take however long you need to adjust. We will always be here for you" she said calmly, leaving his room.
But just talking to Rebekah made Jack feel quite better about the situation.

The manor was packed with people around 6:30, yet Jack hadn't even left his room. Honest to god didn't want to attend this. It felt like he was being forced to yell out "Im a Mikaelson!" to everyone he grew up with. It wasn't that he was embarrassed, but part of him still didn't think this was all real, like they could all disappear in a split second.
Only a couple minutes in Kol came knocking at Jacks door and opened it before Jack could even say anything. "You're missing the party downstairs, brother" he said, it was easy to tell he was already drunk. Though he had quite the tolerance due to his vampirism.
Jack fixed his sleeves and said, "I honestly don't really feel like partying tonight" he admitted.
Kol shrugged, "But you're in your suit and everything. Mother doesn't even care how long were there for as long as were seen attending. Plus tonight's your big reveal" he reminded siting at the end of his bed.
Jack sighed, "I know tonight will be fun and everything but I really don't feel like seeing Elena and them. Especially Maxine, I can't even look at her" he admitted sadly.
Kol huffed, "Girls will be girls and boys will be boys. It's best to get wasted and show this Maxine how much better off you are without her" he suggested. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a flask. "Plus, I think some of this might help make tonight go by faster" he offered.
Jack laughed, grabbing the flask and shaking it. "Half of its gone, Kol" he said.
Kol winced, "Well you see, i'm quite fine of fireball. . .any alcohol matter of fact" he muttered, laying on the bed with his eyes closed. He looked like he was about to pass out.
Jack shook his head and unscrewed the flask, chugging it as much as he could. The cinnamon flavour burning his throat. "Haven't missed that taste" he said making Kol laugh.
"You're a Mikaelson. Alchol is like the first thing we drank once we were born, we live on alcoholism" he replied standing up. He fixed his wrinkled suit and smirked, "Now get up and let's head downstairs shall we, kid" he said.
Jack huffed knowing there was really no way out of tonight. Then he drank from the flask until it was empty and he stood up, already feeling a buzz. "Let's make tonight worth it" he said mostly to himself, following Kol out his room and downstairs.
I've decided to keep blue as the main character and use Bill for another story of mine.
What do you like so far? Jack and Rebekahs relationship or Jack and Kol's?
