chapter ten
( the frost )☆★
HOMECOMING NIGHT. Jack's last homecoming at high school and the first dance of this year. Not to mention the biggest part of their plan was tonight, and the boy had nothing but bad feelings about what was going to go down.
He walked into the house where the party was being held since it didn't work out at the school gym, Caroline to his left and Bonnie to his right. The music was blaring so loud Jack thought he'd go deaf. He didn't feel like he looked good, not to mention he still didn't know how to tie a tie, therefore Caroline had to help him and they all ran a few minutes late.
The entire house was filled with students drinking with red solo cups in their hands, "How did he plan a better party than me so fast? wh- is that a band outside!" Caroline exclaimed, looking around in awe. Here she was planning some epic party over the last few months and then Tyler threw something together in less than twenty-four hours.
Bonnie looked around, "Who are all these people?" she asked confused.
Jack shrugged, "I only know you guys out of the entire Senior class. I don't talk to people, they scare me" he admitted scratching his head.
Caroline sighed, "This is weird. Where is Tyler?" she asked walking away.
Bonnie tilted her head, looking at Jack who was still looking around in shock. This was a gigantic party. Tonight seemed to be lightening up. "Let me guess, you're looking for Max," she said smiling, he nodded and then she pointed in a direction across the room.
There she was, in a skin-tight black dress that highlighted everything Jack loved about her. He quickly said goodbye to Bonnie and walked over, an ear to ear smile as he grabbed to drinks and met with her. "Well you look beautiful, where's your boyfriend?" he asked jokingly.
Maxine smiled back awkwardly, grabbing the drink and huffing. "Well, he's somewhere. . ." she looked around until her eyes landed on him in front of her. "There he is, looking as handsome as he always does" she complimented, kissing him on the cheek.
Jack laughed and then shrugged, furrowing his brows. "I can't believe we made it. I mean granted this is your second 'last' homecoming but I'm surprised I made it" he admitted. "Two years ago I would've never seen me graduating with a beautiful girlfriend by my side" he flourished, cheering cups with her.
"Congratulations, baby," Max said, her eyes looking around the crowd and landing on someone. "I'll be. . .right back" she excused, "Hold my drink?".
Jack nodded, grabbing the cup as she slammed it into him, walking away to meet someone. He looked around for her but she almost just disappeared, he huffed, chugging the rest of her drink and throwing out the empty cups.

THREE DRINKS later and now Jack stood with Elena outside watching the band perform, he had no clue who they were but so far the music wasn't half bad. "Hey, have you seen Max lately? I saw her earlier and then she left and I haven't seen her since" Jack explained.
Elena frowned and shook her head. "I didn't even see her before the dance, she wasn't home so I just assumed she was with you or Care" she replied truthfully. She knew her older sister loved games but she prayed when she began dating Jack maybe she'd stop and realize how good she has it.
Just as the two stopped speaking Klaus walked in front of them, blocking their view of the stage, he was in a black suit with a black tie and white shirt, Jack thought he looked overdressed, he looked at Elena directly, "Where's your date?" he questioned.
Elena stiffened up, "Getting me a drink" she replied, though she wasn't great at lying and Jack could see through her completely. He only hoped Klaus couldn't to.
Klaus smiled, holding up his beer and offering it to her. Elena shook her head and said a quiet no, Jack, however, grabbed it and sent him a thankful smile, chugging the half left beer. "Quite the night, huh" Klaus started laughing, then cleared his throat. "Seems I have you two to thank for Mikael's dimise" he added.
Elena gulped, "He came at me. I didn't have a choice" she stated. Jack nodded to her story or their fake story, he only prayed he didn't screw this whole thing up.
"Still, I'm impressed. It's not easy for a human to dagger an Original" Klaus spoke with such confidence, a type of deception in his voice like he knew they were lying. Jack choked on his beer for a second and then shook the bottle, finding it empty.
Elena shrugged, "It wasn't the first time" she reminded.
Klaus nodded, "Right. Elijah" he looked around and Jack and Elena shared a look, he was never good at lying. "You seem nervous, both of you. What is there someone here you don't like?" he questioned laughing.
Jack bit his lip, "We're not nervous, we just don't like you" he spat, having enough beers to give him more confidence.
Klaus looked away chuckling and then pouted, "There's something about you that I haven't quite figured out yet, a fire in you, I like it" he cleared his throat, "Anyway, I'll get straight to the point then. People have been after me for a thousand years. And I am always one step ahead so whatever it is you're thinking of trying, go for it. Give it your best shot. You won't succeed" he spoke poised, with a smug look.
Jack laughed, wobbling a little bit due to him being such a lightweight. "Yeah well, we also have been doing this for a while, not me but Elena and everyone else. So come at us, do whatever you're gonna do and use us for whatever it is you want. But if you think there won't be a-" He began, Elena stopped him for a moment.
"-Jack, stop" Elena warned.
Jack shook his head, "No, if you think everything you've done, everything you've put us threw and continue to put us through won't have a price. Think again," he threatened, "I need another beer" he excused, walking back inside the house.
