Chapter 23

Grace's P.O.V
I lay on the couch naked, as I watch Harry storm from the room. The door slams resoundingly, making me jolt. I hastily throw on my clothes and sit down again, staring at the wall. My mind runs over the past events at lightening speed, trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Memories of Ashton's smiling face and contagious giggle flood my mind, followed by Harry's deep, melodic voice when I first met him a few hours ago. I recall the way Harry's lips felt pressed against mine, sloppy and full of lust, a stark contrast compared to the sweet yet passionate kisses, with an undercurrent of something raw that me and Ashton have shared. What am I thinking? I shake myself from my disillusioned thoughts and stand up, heading out the door and back to the hotel, crashing on my bed and immediately falling into a fitful slumber.

The next morning I wake up before the sun comes up and head down to the arena, hoping to forget my inner conflict through the power of song. I walk down the corridoors backstage, hoping to find an empty room to spill my heart to. As I walk down the corridoors I hear the rhythmic tap of a box, I stop dead in my tracks and strain my ears to hear the melancholic sound. I step quietly, trying my best to be stealthy as I creep up to the open door, wondering who else is awake at such an ungodly hour. As I inch closer I hear the unmistakably familiar voice of Ashton. My heart skips a beat and I am tempted to turn on my heels and run the opposite direction as fast as my lean legs will let me.
Before my mind can process what I should do I hear the distinct beat to one of my all time favourite J-Bizzle songs. And then I hear the rare sound of Ashton's lovely voice, warbling out the melody with unfathomable woe and grief.

I silently push the door open and see Ashton sitting on top of his cajón, tapping away. His eyes are screwed shut and I can see the pain and anguish in his face. I step into the room and stand by the door, taking in the scene before me.

Ashton sings the chorus flawlessly and I choke back a sob as the words resonate with my soul. He looks up, his hazel eyes piercing mine. His cheeks are stained with tears as he continues singing, his gaze never breaking from mine.
