Darkness. That was the only expression. Light, distant light from afar, sounds of tolling big trailers, a smell too unfamiliar. Trailer! The car, Alicia, no!
Beads of sweats formed on his head as he tumbled in his sleep. No. Not nightmare. Reality. A reality he didn't want to wake up to. Death was his only reality. A soothing hand, no, two, at his left and right each gave him comfort, pacifying him in his nightmare world. "She's in critical condition." Realization hit him as he heard a familiar voice and he fought strongly to summon strength to check on her himself. She's not dead. His heart skip in hope. But he had a feeling the machines connected to him said otherwise. Soon he felt a crowd around him, and the soothing presence soon vanished from there. He wanted to stop them. He wanted them to stay. The nightmares would be back. Oh Alicia, his only strength for living was in a critical state.
No, please let me go. I need to see him. She tried to scream at the nurses who held her down, injecting her with something that brought calmness into her. No, sleepiness. Sedatives! Those darn things. It's fourth time they used it on her today. A record for the other few times she tried to escape. This wasn't an hospital. It was a mental prison were people were trapped between the walls of their mind, left in a dilemma where they couldn't reach out to the ones they cared. Stupid hospital! Stupid doctor! Stupid drugs! Feeling drowsy, she finally succumbed to the darkness that was overwhelming her. When will she finally meet him? She wasn't crazy. She didn't need Brenda... The thoughts slipped out of her mind as she gave into sleep.
Renata and Christina waited outside Kyle's ward hopefully with hands closed against their faces, Renata looking down while Christina looked up, saying every prayer her heart could muster. They'd be run down bad. It was a miracle they were still alive. But the baby couldn't survive. The car was damaged beyond repair. The trailer had managed to hit them even right off the road. Almost seemed planned. But they never got the trailer's number or the driver. People returning from work passing by were the only ones who saw it happen. God please protect them, Christina thought. She never really liked Alicia but she wouldn't wish evil for her. And no woman deserved to go through what she went through, loosing their first child. That scumbard Lucas must be rejoicing in his sit. He just lost his only son. How could she have gotten herself involved with someone like him. If not that he was Kayla's father and a rich billionaire, she would have had him locked up for his crimes. One would wonder where Kayla came from with a pure soul while her father was the devil himself.
Do you think they died? How bad was the 'accident'?
Let's find out.
Life. So full of life. A term now deemed strange to some races. The concept itself which it seemed to hold now had no meaning. Reduced to half a man, with both his legs gone, Kyle counted himself 'lucky' while Alicia's health remained critical, especially her mental, which was slowly being consumed by drugs. Something felt so off. Alicia wasn't like this. She wanted to fight. She really wanted to be with Kyle, even though he was stacked on a wheelchair. She still loved him. Love. A concept which seemed so contrary to life itself. Maybe some where born to be miserable. It would explain all the suffering they'd endured. But alas, what is love, without life. And what is life without love. Two concept needing each other's existence simultaneously but still contradicting in the life of innocent minds.
'Maybe God is punishing us' Kyle thought as he wheeled his chair into Alicia's ward. 'Maybe he's punishing us for our sins. Maybe if Kayaks and I didn't make love when we were so young, just may be we would have been married by now with kids living the happy life we dreamed off. An average modern house, simplicity in its elegance, and beautiful kids who loved us as much as we loved them.' Now, he could only hope to live a make up of the dream. As he moved closer to Alucua's bed watching her sleep, he felt an odd aura around and worry filled him. He moved over to her head side, and held her hands, shocked by the lack of life he got from her. "Alicia," he whispered gently, not wanting to wake her up. He felt breeze along the doors and turned in the direction being meet by a nurse.
"Sirm what are you doing here? She..." The nurse stopped in her statement as she checked Alicia's pulse. "She's dead." No. No. The words didn't well inside him at all. No. She couldn't be dead. He'd saved her once, twice, several times. She couldn't give up now....
